Plushenko keeps saying he's coming back...

Plushenko keeps saying he's coming back, and usually when I hear news along these lines (I'm looking at you, Sasha, Michelle, Yagudin, etc.) I roll my eyes and think nothing of it, but Plushenko's press releases on this issue are getting more frequent now (here's the latest http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=202495&Read more... )

buttle, lysacek, daisuke, plushenko, johnny weir, joubert, lambiel, verner

I don't think Michelle is coming back. I don't think she'd be able to compete with the current girls anyway. Sasha...I kind of wish she would come back. I mean, the whole acting thing? Not for her, in my opinion.

I think the biggest force right now is Takahashi, probably Lysacek (as is quad has become pretty consistent), and Tomas and Johnny. In my head, those are the top four contenders for worlds.

I wonder how Plushenko is skating these days.

Yeah, Michelle's ship has sailed, no question about it. I am hoping that Sasha comes back, though, because she was always interesting. I haven't seen her act, and maybe that's a good thing.LOL

I would replace Lysacek with Lambiel on your list of World contenders and agree completely with the rest. Lysacek's quad may be more consistent than Jeff's but it's always underrotated and I still hold out hope that he'll be dinged for it (and that ghastly 3A!) eventually.

I saw Plushy's performance on one of the NBC cheesefests recently: he is definitely chubbier but flailed past the music just like the good old days. LOL. Who knows what shape he's really in.

I saw Plushenko at Champions on Ice last spring, and yes he seemed a little chubbier and his jumps didn't have the power that they used to.

*lurking in*

Now, by pulling it off, I mean winning gold, because for Plushenko there is either gold or nothing. (Personally, I don't agree with this mindset. I am usually fangirling the "Silver and Bronze: Still Better than You" group.)While I agree that I don't personally share this mindset, one has to agree it has work on him a lot and probably that mindset is what gives him the focus to come back. Also the expectation of him winning is not just from him but from the rest. I remember an interview to Verner after he won Euros where he is asked about it and he said something like "he has to come back to win because any other thing would look as a failure for everyone else ( ... )

You are always welcome to "lurk in" :D

I agree that others are putting the pressure on him too. It's too bad, though. Because if he comes back for 2010 and wins ANY medal, it would still be a huge accomplishment. How many people have 3 Olympic medals? That's like 12 years of "top of the game" skating!

Yes, thanks, that's the cheesefest I saw!

If the Japanese federation breaks Daisuke...*shakes fist*, I'll be so mad!
