Avery is also mentioned as being a contemporary of Snape. I guess we have to take it that the position of Death Eater really is passed along from father to son (with a couple girls added into the mix).
Well, you know, I'm quite sure the Lestrange in this scene refers to the Lestranges brothers' father - same with Avery and the others. I'm rather sure Dumbledore mentioned after seeing the memory (the entire or the wrong one) that these friends of Tom later becamesomething like the "first Death Eaters". After all, it would make much more sense, because if they mentioned Lestrange is one of R&R he had to be around 70 by the time of the books - and Rowling clearly mentioned that they've been at Hogwarts with Snape. So, I'm really sure there fathers are meant there.
And about the "Lestranges" mentioned in GoF - Sirius told the Trio that they were a "married couple", so we can be quite sure he refers to Bella and Rod.
