Tired of writing this paper...

First of all, hi everyone! Newbie here. And I'm currently having my soul sucked out by the research paper I'm writing. I'm a senior in college (history and philosophy major), and I'm currently enrolled in a class called Tudor and Stuart England (and I've been looking forward to taking this class since I was a freshman). My research paper is due ( Read more... )

That's one of my sources...and definitely one of the more helpful ones. :-)

I totally agree...I was talking to some people in my class before we all turned our papers in this afternoon, and I was talking about Anne, and someone said, "Was she the ugly one?" I felt bad for her, even though she's been dead for 450 years. :-( I think my paper turned out well, personally...maybe I'm biased. ;-D

Um, well I don't think posters on LJ are an acceptable source. Have you used Alison Weir as a resource?

I agree, Anne of Cleves rocks. She made out the best out of all of them, I personally think. Henry wasn't bitter toward her, she got an allowance every year and didn't really have to do anything. She also got on well with his children, and didn't have to go back to Germany. I feel sorry for Jane Seymour, who actually made out second best of the six and she died.

I also have Weir's Six Wives of Henry VIII as a source...I wasn't seriously proposing footnoting this community into my paper as a source! But I was looking for interest and encouragement...and some praise for dear Anne, since I agree that she was the luckiest of the 6 wives. That's my paper's thesis.

Oh, well in that case, you are 100% correct. She didn't get the attention Katherine of Aragon got with the divorce, she wasn't Catholic so it wasn't a huge deal, she didn't get beheaded, Henry never humiliated her, no one tried to assasinate her, her next husband didn't try to throw her under the bus so he could marry Elizabeth, she wasn't involved in the Regency, she wasn't huge on religion so Henry and his kids never took issue with her over that, she never had to go the Tower, no one tried to conspire against her, she lived a quiet life and died of natural causes.

I don't know- your husband telling the world that he found your body so repulsive you rendered him impotent is pretty humiliating!

You've probably already used it, but "Six Wives: The Queens of Henry VIII," by David Starkey, is an excellent book.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been writing this paper?

I've got that one, too. :-) I've been writing since yesterday...it seems that procrastination is an inescapable part of my nature. The rough draft (which must be complete with the full length of the paper, footnotes, and works cited) is due at 2:00 this afternoon (in about 2 hours, my time). The final draft (revised, if necessary) is due Tuesday.

Glad to see that you completed it on time. Procrastination has effectively killed off several papers I've written that could have been really good.

They did away with the Tudor/Stuart course at my college before I got a chance to take it. I'm still bitter about that.

Same with my university! It's so depressing :(.

Find the right prof to talk to...I did. I got him excited about it and he's going to try to bring the class back! :D

Have you tried Retha Warnicke's Marrying Anne of Cleves? Her Anne Boleyn theories are a bit out there but even if her ones on this subject are too, it'd still be a good source I think.

I used that one, too...I didn't like as much as Starkey, Lindsey, or Weir.
