I’ve long ago conceded that my memory is far from perfect, but sometimes it’s shocking to realize just how poorly I remember some things. Take, for example, my father’s story of nearly being arrested for espionage on his way to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. Barry Rippon had the game. We didn't really know what was going on-we always hoped to get Friendship because of the cool tilting-hand random-number generator.

I'm totally bummed that I didn't grab it before it was purged from the downstairs. There was an online version called Kaliko, with a very good computer player, where I actually learned the rules-but it went offline sometime in the last year.

I think I recall that confabulation is a universal human tendency. Maybe the brain can't really hold a "memory" that is too disjointed, and so it needs to add a little epoxy here and there where the pieces don't cohere naturally.

Very nice analogy! I've heard the same. I'm not surprised that I've filled in the gaps with plausible, if inaccurate, details-but it's so embarrassing to realize my brain has conducted such wholesale making shit up.
