The first thing that comes to mind is 'Breathe Me' by Sia. Maybe 'The Trick is to Keep Breathing' by Garbage.

Don't know if either of those will work, but good luck with the project!

... perhaps something melancholic but also uprising(sp?) like Anathema's: Everything ( http://www.anathema.ws/ (follow the download link on the site to get the song) ) and a more melancholic/dramatic song like Anathema's: Violence

Björk: The Dull Flame Of Desire

More positive/inspiring stuff could be songs from VanHalen like "Jump" or similar stiled songs from other bands. :)

you know what would be really kitschy? "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler.

Probably moving in the wrong direction here, but "My Hero" from foo fighters would also be pretty cool.

A section of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah would be awesome!

i also love love love love love this song but my dad and i disagree when it comes to spiritual beliefs so it would not be appropriate. you picked one of my favourite songs of all time however so Bonus Point for YOU!
