"Hurry!" Johnny rushed a little girl that he didn't know toward her mom and herded them both toward the door. "We don't have much time!"
He glanced over his shoulder at the flames. The building seemed familiar and he filed away the details as he closed the fire door and stepped into the stairwell. He moved as quickly as he could with his uneven gait and caught up to the scared pair.
The mother slammed the emergency exit door open and pulled her daughter with her out into the fresh air. Johnny wasn't far behind and he stood bent over with his palms on his thighs as he gulped down as much oxygen as he could.
Abruptly, he awoke, thankful that he could recall the specifics of his nightmare. Without a second thought, he bolted from bed and got dressed as he phoned Walt.
"Hello?" the other man tried to go quickly from asleep to full awake.
"Walt, there's a fire, or going to be one. It looked like the office complex downtown."
"Meet you there," Walt answered the unspoken question. He'd grown accustomed to late night calls and knew Johnny's dreams were reliable. He closed his phone and jumped into sheriff mode.
There was no telling how long they had from the dreams. The precious amount of time they had was already clicking away.
