why is it that people always make the remark about communism being an idealistic theory that could never work in real life and none of those people said anything similar about preemptive, unilateral war, or the PNAC plan in general ( Read more... )

The reason why ignorant bastards say that communism is pure ideology and 'cannot work!' is due to this sort of propagandistically-indoctrinated belief where their examples consist of the People's Republic of China and the USSR. My retort is that China is hardly communist. They are all into free trade with the US and have McDonalds on every street corner. Plus, Mao's dead, which means any point on which they were communism in its purest form(marxism-leninism) is dead, long dead. And the USSR?? Please. They surely had it back in the days of Lenin and Trotsky, but everyone remembers the USSR for Stalin, a corrupt dictator who completely washed over pure Communism with his own 'flair', which was fascism and destruction of the working class, which can't be any more anti-communism ( ... )

while all of that stuff is true. it doesn't mean communism is a great idea either. there has to be a happy medium of between the extremes of sick consumerism and a purely communist state.

And there is, according to Marxist theory. It's called socialism. Socialism was described in The Communist Manifesto to be the transitional state between capitalism(or any other form of a like society) and communism. That's why The Communist Manifesto is still used today-it's fairly logical despite being somewhat outdated. So yes, read up on that, I believe Manifesto has a very good definition of socialism and how it differs from communism. Sure, every system has its flaws. That goes without saying. Instead of 'settling' with what we have, I'd rather have the antithesis of capitalism, communism. Of course they both have their fair share of pros and cons, but to accept free trade consumimg every ounce of culture and every inferior market across the world while enslaving people in various factories, mills, retail establishments, video stores to make a living in such a system? Let's try the other one.
