I'm the authority? *sigh* I didn't think so, of course you meant the Guru. I'm plotting to steal his laptop and his job (preferably in that order). I think I should get Al to help me, sounds dodgy enough for him :D
Ha! Your modesty is very unbecoming: I meant YOU! (Anthony Green is a hack, who would be lost without that laptop of his. smokedamage and I will ba more than happy to, 'organise' getting your hands on it....)
I was considered tres geeky at uni for doing so much on elections. but I really like them. don't diss the guru though, I've seen him remember polling booth splits from past elections of the top of his head when the power was out and he couldn't access his laptop.
(some of my friends know him and don't like him much though. don't know if that means anything. I don't think I should repeat their comments on a public forum 8-/ )
oh, and I should say that I probably can't claim to know *all* things electoral. I get the british system (first past the post is stupid) and the american system is so inconsistant that I just want to slap them all. And I even understand the Hare-Clarke system as used in the Tasmanian state elections.
But, try as I might, I have never grasped the most complex preferential system in the world. It is called the Modified d'Honte system, and it is used in none other than the ACT elections! Takes weeks (or even months) to get a result.
