the lucky penny

Jan 04, 2007 00:23

I left work early yesterday to go to the movies with a friend. While waiting for her in the book section of a store, I looked down to discover a penny on the floor. It was heads-side-up so into my pocket it went. If it had been tails I would have kicked it until it flipped and then picked it up; I believe in making my own luck. :)

As luck would have it )

movies, harry potter, books, links, blood donation, friends, ramble

That's very kind of you to say. :) I know I'm a talker and can ramble a bit. Since I hadn't posted in a while, I had so much to say I didn't know where to start. I limited myself to posting about just one evening. Hopefully, that should jumpstart more frequent and timely posting on my behalf. :)

Nearly everyone gets busy during the holidays and it's easy to fall behind on something like LJ. I haven't been posting as much because I feel like there's so much negativity with roomie very ill and the money problems it's causing. I don't want to get to a point where people are tempted to skip my post rather than read another downer. :-O

I try to stay cognizant of all the positive things I still have in my life, of the advantages that I have over people in places torn apart by war, disease and poverty, or even those down the street in the cancer hospital. But that isn't something I can ramble about every day either.

I have confidence. Things will get better and I will get better and my posting will pick back up!

I'm sorry your roommate is not well. Dealing with a serious illness is a difficult situation for all involved. I hope things improve for her (and you).

I have to say I really don't mind reading people's downer posts. It's therapeutic for people to share their problems, ask for advice, and accept moral support. I worry more about people like myself who internalize and don't talk about their problems. I'm more likely to work through something before I even mention I'm troubled. I'm a very open person so I don't understand that tendency of mine. It could be a control issue. Or the Pollyanna approach. I'm told by friends I have an unusually happy disposition and can put a positive spin on anything. I'm going to assume that's a compliment and not an annoying trait. :)

You just never know who you'll meet when you strike up a conversation with a stranger. Addendum: in a well-lit, safe environment with plenty of other witnesses people. :D You know what I mean!

WEll, it's funny how contagious the HP bug can get when you meet someone in RL that "gets it" like you said. nena_nieve and I get all schoolgirly when we're together (even though we probably haven'tn seen each other in months), and we don't ship the same ship either. We both respectfully agree to disagree. (She wants to see Harry end up single and Happy, but I digress...)

Sounds like that's one very special coin!!! I'd carry it with you everywhere!

So, is it a DATE with the mystery man????? *inquiring minds want to know* Do tell!

We saw Eragon last week during school vacation and it was ok. Mr. Rose read the books as well as Son#1 and he wasn't too pleased with it. Neither did son#1. Though it was cheesy.

Anyhow, love your ramblings, please don't stop!

Time for me to stop now though! :DD

Discovering LJ shortly after becoming a HP fan was a wonderful thing for me. At that time I didn't know any HP fans (several relatives have since come out of the closet :P) and it was so nice to find online friends to share the HP fun. I still haven't met any LJ friends but hope to remedy that sometime this year. :)

So, is it a DATE with the mystery man?No. He was only in town on business but his company does business with some local gas companies which my office is also working with on several projects. We exchanged business contact info with a mention of having lunch or dinner together the next time he's in town. If he does call, I'd probably go because he was nice and interesting. I didn't get a love connection vibe though (and I've been horny as hell lately so if I didn't feel any attraction, it just wasn't there :P ( ... )
