1) Switchblade Romance - I've no idea why they changed the name of this in translation because High Tension, the original, captures it perfectly. Unfortunately it goes a bit to pot after the big reveal.
2) Dear Wendy - Lars Von Trier only wrote this but he is written all over it. An inscrutable yet still offensive allegory of America.
3) The Wrestler - Very well made but smaller and less ambitious than I would have liked.
4) The Good, The Bad And The Weird - There was possibly no need to remake The Good, The Bad And The Ugly in 1930s Manchuria but it was pretty good fun, albeit baggy.
5) Mesrine: : Killer Instinct
6) Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1
Very slick, stylish and hollow. I could do with a break from gangster films. Of, say, thirty years...
7) Wanted - A preposterous plot about a magic loom wedded to a vile misogynistic self-help theme. A couple of decent action scenes but I could do with a break from this hateful trash too.
8) Town Bloody Hall -
This is what a feminist looks like.
9) A Prophet
10) The Beat My Heart Skipped
Well, my break from French gangster films didn't last very long. Some thoughts
here.
11) Picnic At Hanging Rock - Too overloaded with portent for me.
