- 3-10 To Yuma - Lots of big manly Western goodness. Russell Crowe being his usual Alpha Male self, whilst Christian Bale is close to his usual intense self, but with a side order of insecurity. Nom nom nom.
- WALL-E - not too bad, less kiddy-specific than I'd feared, but not very taxing either. But within the constraints of what it's trying to do, the first half is very good, and the second half isn't too bad, although far more cartoonish.
- The X Files - I Want To Believe - Blandy McBlandison. Very much like a long version of one of the less paranormal-based episodes. There appears to be absolutely no sexula tension - unresolved or otherwise - left between Scully and Mulder, the storyline is dull and uninspired, the dialogue often wooden. Billy Connolly is a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes bringing quiet nuance to a complex character, sometimes hamming it up - but that more or less matches the way that the character is written, so who knows if its him or the direction? I'm really not sure why they bothered making this film; it brings nothing new at all to the canon, ties up no lose ends, and can't even seem to decide whether Scully and Mulder are together or not.
- The Dark Knight - Loved it; dark, layered, complex, with excellent performances from Bale, Ledger, Oldman, Eckhart, Caine and Freeman. Lots of big 'splodey fun, lots of Heath Ledger being a psychopath, lots of angst.
- We Are Marshall - Saccharine "based on a true story" film with a surprisingly heavy-hitting cast that still never quite raises itself above made-for-TV cliches.
(And yes, we finally went to the cinema yesterday, why do you ask?)
