364 words in, I'm officially ready to back out. ah, pathetic. I did this last year; I can do it again. ...right?

by the way, I'm Mary... I ended up here because I know happyelfling, I know liegt_am_meer, and I have that undeniable urge to cause myself pain for an entire month. no, not really. actually, I'll be rather excited if this manages to push me back into ( Read more... )

I don't have a plot. I barely have characters. I'm gonna start when I get home from work, but I have no idea how.

i haven't written word one yet because i've been at work and it's been crazy. but i am sure you can get to word 365. every time you get stopped up just put a period at the end of your sentence and start with your character's name and what he/she did or said next. another option is to find a re-occuring theme and just hit that over the head a few times. some books repeatedly refer to the changing colour of the sky or the smell outside or repeating sounds like church bells or traffic...

good luck!!

I did alright. not long after I posted this, I found the gall to go back at it, and I'm now at 1799 words. unfortunately, it's now day two, so the high I had over being on schedule is fading into the same neuroses of yesterday morning. ah, routine. :>

and it's so strange that you mentioned the recurring theme thing. I mean, basically all I have is an overarching theme - since I'm missing the plot and the characters - but before I read your comment yesterday, I started to find myself weaving small things - a comment about hair, for instance - in from one section to the next. I like how fluid that keeps it, although I'd want the particular image to change enough that people not feel beaten about the head...

hope yours is coming along well.

i'm only at 908 words or so... but i write at night so while i'm behind schedule i still have tonight to write. a couple months ago i would have had plenty of time to write at work, right now i'm limited to writing at home and i work about 10 hours a day. 'tis quite painful.

Yay, Mary's here!
Yeah, my tip for when I get stuck- notice a detail. For example, ok, what is this character holding in her hand? Now where did she get it? What does she think about it? What's she going to say about it? Who's going to respond? And there's a tangent that can go on for quite a while, plus you get to know your character better.
Ok, time to leave work and go WRITE!
