Thanks so much for these recs! Food is definitely one of my issues, and while I have some understanding of the issues outside the US, it's not nearly as deep as I'd like, and the first book sounds excellent for that. & the second is info that should be more widely discussed in the US, so it'll be good to deepen my understanding there too.
