He was one of my favorite poets in my teens; I've always loved rhyme and form and formality, and he allied those to issues of race, class and color I knew from my everyday life.

I really enjoyed his poetry too - have another volume on my shelf that I shall read at some point.

Can I ask: was he assigned at school or did you find him independently?

It totally was Cullen. This is what happens when the book itself is upstairs in my baby's room while I write the review downstairs. My apologies.
