I'm glad you enjoyed The Sparrow. It is exactly as you described, so haunting. It's a story that really made me think. The second book is not quite as brilliant and is a bit more graphic but worth reading to see how it all comes to closure.

Anne has encouraged me to read Children of Earth as well. I just bought ten new books from Powell's and I was about to set off hunting for Children of Earth when Jason said I had enough books (he was buying them after all) so I think I'll have to wait. I'm curious to read it. I felt the first book to be very graphic towards the end, but Emilo's dream about being able to still find God in the midst of what happened to him really helped me deal with the ending of the book. I wonder if I will love the new characters in the sequel the way I loved the original characters. Hmm? I guess I'm just gonna have to read the book!
