When I was little my mother made me a pig using crochet. I really loved that pig. Your post makes me wonder if I can find the pattern for my little one.

There are pig and piglet patterns in this book - I just checked. They don't look quite as easy as the snake (see below), but they look pretty easy.

I'm fairly new to knitting--can you tell if some of the "easy" patterns really are easy? Maybe I'll just pick it up from the library and give it a shot anyway. It would be fun to make things for my nieces.

I looked at the snake pattern, which is labeled "easy" - and it looks pretty easy. There is only a little shaping work (calling for basic increases and decreases) and the only other complicated thing on that one that I could see was the color work - it's for a striped snake - and, as the pattern says, you could easily make the snake in one color. The book labels "easy" as "simple enough for the beginner to tackle" - and I'm going to (I've only been knitting for a year and a half).
