I recently (as in just over a month ago) took a job in Hong Kong, and I'm moving on Thursday. So it's all been very whirlwind and I've been crazy busy. Since I won't have as many books in Hong Kong, I'm going to drop my goal from 100 ( Read more... )

Have you read American Gods by Neil Gaiman at all? I would say that's better than Stardust, and is quite possibly my favourite book.
I didn't hear they'd changed the ending for the movie though.
As for recommended books, well, American Gods if you've not read it. I also suggest The Diary of a Nobody, but that can possibly be found online.

I have read American Gods, and I really enjoyed it. I think I just liked the subject matter of Stardust better.

Good Omens is an excellent choice.

If you're a Gaiman fan, I agree that American Gods is a wonderful book. I loved Neverwhere as well - definitely read that one.

I haven't read Neverwhere yet, but it's on my bookshelf. Maybe I'll take it with me.

The Stardust movie wasn't too bad. In fact, I was impressed as to how close to the book it was (as a movie can for a book like that). The ending of the film isn't much different than that of the book. Not in any signifficant way.

I still think you should see the movie. I really really liked it and thought it was very true to the spirit of the book.

Oh I couldn't imagine 10 books for a whole year. I'm just curious because I know nothing about moving to another country. Is there no way to have family/friends ship you more later? Do they not sell English books in Hong Kong?

Sorry if that was a stupid questions, just wondering why the OP said only 10 books to last the whole year. I'd probably take would I could and then buy a whole bunch to read there.
