The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova This book was a little hard to get into at first but the more I read, the better it got. The changes in point of view/time were a little confusing, but it worked. Oh, if you're just getting to know McCarthy, I envy you. There are books of his I'd give my right arm to be able to experience again for the first time.
The next logical step for a newbie is probably All the Pretty Horses, which remains his most accessible novel. But really, you could pick a McCarthy off the shelf at random and you'll get a sterling read.
