Title : Love Letters of Great Men
Editor: Ursula Doyle
Genre : Anthology
My rating : 4/5

This anthology of love letters written by a score of great and influential men is a heart-warming collection. I love it because it made me able to sneak a peek into the real personalities and emotions that existed behind the facade of fame and popularity that I know about those influential characters. It makes those people more human, if I can say so. Sometimes it made me think like "wow, this person can really love like the rest of us". At other times "he's a definite romatic indeed, just as I thought!" Hahahaha... Several letters are really touching and actually moved me to tears. This anthology also include several letters from soldiers of the WWI to their beloved back home. However, it gets 4 out of 5 stars because there are letters that in my opinion aren't really suitable to be included in this anthology. Because I think they aren't really that impressive as love letters. The editor can choose other better letters from a huge selection of famous personalities. But this is definitely a good choice as a "read in between". To relax your brain out of reading a string of heavy novels.

My favourite letters are those written by: William Congreve (1670-1729), George Farquhar (1676/7-1707), Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805), Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), Daniel Webster (1782-1852), John Keats (1795-1821), Honore de Balzac (1799-1850), Victor Hugo (1802-1885), Mark Twain (1835-1910), G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936) and Regimental Sergeant-Major James Milne. But the one that is most divine for me is Oscar Wilde's letter.
