I was leaning towards culture a little. The 60s and 70s (and even the end of the 50s somewhat) were more focused on rebellion and breaking new ground but I'm not sure what the 40s style is more about...

The Beatles (and probably the Who, idk) were influenced by Elvis and Buddy Holly in that era but I can't really figure out how to connect it with the 40s/50s style I'm writing about since it's not really the same thing and it's just a bit late for that time period.

Definitely use the quote from Sinatra that says he thought "Something" by the Beatles was the greatest love song of the 20th century.

And I know Queen mirrored tons of Andrews Sisters-esque harmonies, the guitar solo in "Lazing on A Sunday Afternoon" being an entire 40s brass band for example.

And Bob Dylan TOTALLY plays off of/covers Woody Guthrie. He was practically in love with the man.

Uhm, I was going to say something else but I forgot. Just make your conclusion something about how TEH BEATELS ARE LEIK SO AWESUMM!!!11!! and she'll have to give you an A. ;)

Simply stating how the Beatles are awesome and turning that in should get me an A, but it's not the assignment. (Oh, darn)

Idk if I can count Bob Dylan, since I'm trending towards mostly the rock side of the era and not folksy but if I need to I'll work him in b/c I'd hate to leave him out if I have a place for him.

Nice suggestions. I might use the one about Sinatra, I'd almost forgotten about that. Thanks. =)

Well, the culture of the 60's was inspired by lashing out at tradition and protesting against the way the government was operating, and I'm sure you know that much ( ... )

Wow, that is awesome. I was thinking of the WWII thing but wasn't sure how to word it. Thanks you soooooo much. =)

Btw, I've never heard of the Crew Cuts BUT the Sh-Boom I know (and have on my iPod) is by the Chords...lol. Just ironic, I guess.

That's awesome. Too often I meet people who understand my references to a certain song but then think it's by someone else who stole the original artist's thunder.
I only know the Crew Cuts version because of the movie Clue anyway. XD

Well, all the stuff about the 60s/70s being about rebellion and stuff, and the 40s/50s were trying to be upbeat beause of the war/Depression era have been said. Although, one type of music that wasn't upbeat was blues. You can talk about how the African American culture and problems therein lead to blues. Really, I would talk about the culture of the time, since that's where music comes from: how people feel in relation to what's going on around them.
