Catching my breath

In watching this year's Academy Award show, I was very curious to see how they would treat the category of Best Supporting Actress.  Traditionally, it's the prior year's winner of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that presents the award in the successive year.  How very sad not to have Heath Ledger up on that stage tonight ( Read more... )

(I need a more fitting icon for such circumstances.)

The Oscar ceremony has been bittersweet for me all night, though it took me the longest time to realize it was Heath Ledger that I was missing. I'd never even noticed the tradition with the previous Best Supporting Actor, so I suppose that my melancholy was left over from the huge emotional investment I had in the awards ceremony last year.

Morgan Freeman is an amazing actor, no doubt.

I need to take advantage of my spring break to re-watch all of Heath Ledger's films. Pity that my sister has the "Knight's Tale" DVD at her apartment.

I remember reading in your profile that Morgan Freeman was one of your favorite actors as well. He's just divine. Not to lean toward the morose, but when his death and Anthony Hopkins' death inevitably transpire, I'm going to be devastated.

I couldn't stop thinking about that whenever they focused the camera on Morgan Freeman during the Best Actor bit. It's truly depressing to realize just how old many of my favorite actors are (though age doesn't guarantee anything, of course). At least we'll still have their work to remember them by, I suppose.

I really want to get my hands on his movie, "Candy". It looks like another hard-core performance.

Though his performances were good, the movie "The Four Feathers" was pretty flat, and I remember being disappointed that his hair wasn't blonde in the movie. (Could I be more shallow?) "Ned Kelly" was okay, but he's the one worth seeing.

His role in "Monster's Ball" was absolutely tragic. That's one I've got to rent again.

I missed watching the Oscars this year. But a long time ago I randomly came across this illustration by Jos Valdman of the 2009 Best Supporting Actor Oscar statue weeping for Heath Ledger that moved me to tears.

Looking at this illustration of the weeping statue is making me teary-eyed right now again too. I know Heath is very happy in heaven right now. He's probably attending a concert to watch Michael Jackson on stage or reprising his role as the Joker in another Batman movie up in heaven. But dammit (insert sound of frustration here), despite knowing he's happy, the rest of the people--probably millions of people, including me--back on planet Earth are still sad about his death. The death of another human being is frustrating to deal with.

I read an article on Michelle Williams, and she said that a little girl approached Matilda (her daughter with Heath), and said to her, "Your dad's dead. Like Michael Jackson." Reading your image of them together is really sweet. :)

you want to hear something that I think is stupid? I can't even watch any of his other movies and I haven't watched TDK since july or august. I don't know why. is it stupid to be pissed at someone for dying that you didn't even know? I kinda think so, but at the same time.. i got the one movie of his and watched 5 minutes of it before taking it back.

granted i very rarely watch movies or even TV at home usually I watch at friends houses. it's weird, i know. esp. considering I wasn't really a fan of his before TDK.

plus i don't want to watch TDK too much and get sick of it, that would be tragic

Your anger with him is a testament to just how powerful of an impact he left. If he was milquetoast, you'd be able to watch his other movies without any qualms.

I know what you mean about not wanting TDK to lose its appeal through too many views. I want to see it again, just to see HIM, but I don't want to end up ruining the experience of the movie, as it was meant to be enjoyed in its entirety.

I fell in love with him during the Brokeback Mountain publicity campaign and award shows in late 2005/early 2006. In almost every interview he gushed about how happy he was to be a father and how in love he was with his girls. It made him a lot more human and relatable to me, outside of the heartthrob image I previously had of him. And Brokeback Mountain and Candy showed a very fragile, vulnerable, sensitive side to this very tough looking, masculine man that made me melt ( ... )
