"Girls don't kiss girls," said four year old Jamie Newton firmly.
"Who should girls kiss?" asked Jessi with interest.
Jamie pulled a face.
"No one. Kissing is yukky."
"So..." probed Jessi, "it's not that girls kissing each other is wrong as much as kissing at all?"
Jamie frowned, trying to express what he was thinking.
"Mummies and Daddies kiss. They have to. And sometimes girls kiss boys. But not girls."
"Why not?"
"Because." Jamie stopped. "Because of love and stuff."
"Well, I love Mallory and she loves me."
Jamis shook his head and Jessi gave up trying to convince him. If the adults were having trouble understanding about her and Mallory, perhaps it had been a bit much to expect a four year old to come to terms with it immediately.
"But he'll come round," she told Mal confidently the next day. "They all will..."
