*Shit. Someone going into the forest? That can't be good.*

Uh... Hello? Where are you going?

[ Alex hears a voice and pauses for a moment, looking around for its source. Where's it coming from? The communicator?

He doesn't recognise who's talking; the mask has temporarily torn a new person into him who doesn't know Tim or realise that he's worried. But he turns to look back, and the moonlight reflects off the smooth white curve of his mask. ]

*Tim's stomach drops out when he sees the mask and for a moment he's too stunned to even react.*

Wh--.... you?

*Had the Operator made more? Had there always been more? Had Markus' stabbing rampage really been making more minions somehow? The figure looked far too tall to be Poland but...*

Where are you going?

[ He turns a little further, then walks slowly towards the communicator on the ground, moving like a stutter.

He begins to open his mouth under the mask, but his throat is full of dryness and static and no sound will come out. It shouldn't come out. Speaking is forbidden, and he's not had as much time as Markus to work his way around the rule.

He stands over the communicator and nudges it with his foot. ]

Yeah. Okay. Just.. Just stay there. I'm coming.

*And the comm is filled with his panicked exit from his room. He's running as fast as he can to the forest. Oh god. Since when have there been two? And what if whoever this is shows up on the network and gets killed for what Markus had been doing.*

[ He stays in place for all of five seconds, then realises that somebody is coming to find him. Maybe get in the way of his performing the Operator's orders. That possibility is almost physically painful.

Not that there's actually anybody to bury at the moment, but still, if bodies arrived and he was unable to carry out his purpose...

When Tim arrives at the forest edge, the communicator is still lying on the grass, but the masked guy is nowhere to be seen. ]

*Shit. Tim picks up the comm, but there's no identifying marks or a handy "Property of ARK" scrawled on the back of it. He pockets it and looks around. Of course he's gone deeper into the forest. Why the hell not? The better to get floodled with.

And he can't fucking see anything. He should have thought to bring a flashlight. He couldn't have gotten that far though right? Tim plunges into the forest with all the grace of a newborn puppy on black ice.*

Hello? Can you hear me?

[ Of course he can hear you, Tim. You're crashing around like an elephant with a grudge against undergrowth.

Alex, meanwhile, is on the lowest branch of a tree. He's pretty good at climbing despite his skinny slips of limbs, and that's coming in handy now as he perches and peers down through the darkness.

He shifts a little to keep Tim in view, and the branches around him rustle. ]

*Well he's clearly not going to come to him. Tim stops a little ways in and holds still, listening for all he's worth. How far could the guy have gotten? On the other hand the Operator wasn't close either considering he was still... well still Tim. He still felt like he was being watched so maybe the masked man hadn't gotten that far after all.*

I'm not going to hurt you. And ... *He grits his teeth. He hates saying this, but he's pretty sure if this guy thinks like Markus it's the right thing to say.* I'm not gonna keep you from whatever you're supposed to be doing. Just.... come out okay?

[ Tim's hit the bingo! The question of whether or not he's telling the truth doesn't occur to Alex: there's no room in his mind for lies and second-guesses on top of the static and the beckoning commands.

Alex doesn't reveal himself, exactly. But he does feel confidence enough to move forward a little, the better to see. One hand grasps the spade and the other keeps his balance against the tree trunk. His pale mask and the metal of the spade become visible through the shadow and leaves, if Tim looks in the right direction. ]

*He slowly spins around in a circle hoping something happens. He spots the mask and the shovel and stops.*

Good. Okay.

*He pointedly keeps his hands in the pocket of his jacket trying to appear unimposing and non-threatening.*

My name is Tim. I'm not going to hurt you.

*He approaches slowly.*

Can you talk?

[ He's not sure what a name is supposed to signify, but okay, he can roll with that. Of greater interest are the second statement and the question.

Alex almost wants to communicate that of course Tim won't hurt him. He's pretty sure that the only one able or allowed to hurt him is the Operator, terrifying and comforting. That's why he doesn't seem at all afraid when Tim approaches, but moves forward a little more himself, tilting his head uncomprehendingly.

Talk? No. No, he can't do that.

The tilt turns into a slow, uncertain head-shake. ]

Okay. That's okay.

*He moves below him and looks up, noting the spade.*

Digging something up? Or... putting something in the ground?

*He nods. Most likely the latter one. He squints into the trees, it's hard to see anything but the mask in this darkness.*

Come on down from there. We'll go do some digging.

*More than anything he wants to get a better look at him and see if he can figure out who this is.*

[ He lifts the spade, grasps it in both hands and steps off the branch.

It's not very far to fall: he was only standing about waist height off the ground. Although waist height on him is a bit further up than it would be on Tim. The guy's kinda tall, though his figure is obscured by his large coat.

He lands and bends at the knees to absorb it, stumbling on the uneven ground.

Digging. Of course. He's reminded of his purpose here: the one that's not yet pressing, but which he's nonetheless neglecting. He straightens up, then turns on his heel and starts to walk away, still with that careful, unpracticed gait. ]

*Tall isn't really helping Tim figure out who this is. EVERYONE is taller than him. The only thing he knows is that it isn't Poland. He almost reaches out to steady the masked man, but then snatches his hands back. Other than frightening the other man into running, he's not sure if touching him is a good idea. It might trigger something that'll turn him instantly into Markus. And that's all he needs.

He walks slowly alongside the other man noting the way he was moving.*

Have to learn how to walk all over again huh? Man. That sucks.

[ He turns his face to look at Tim, though his questioning expression isn't visible. Sure, it's kind of frustrating, in a flattened-out sort of way where the journey is a lot less important than the destination. But he has no recollection of having to walk a first time, so the comment kind of goes over his head.

They're close enough that the moving gleam of his eyes might be briefly, faintly visible behind the mask.

But this is too close. This does feel like he's too close to a human, not in a frightening way, but in one that's as deeply disturbing as if he were walking next to somebody with no head. He shifts left, and carries on walking a little further away from Tim. ]
