This made my day

Because I detest panic. Apes panic, chimps panic, monkeys of any kind panic. I thought we had evolved out of this.

When people ask me how I feel about Japan, I tend to reply "angry". And not, mind you, because I'm not hurt. I'm having horrid nightmares every night, since the 11th.

My friends already know how I've been struggling to help people stay ( Read more... )

On one hand, this seems kind of mean. On the other hand, I'm sick of journalism spreading fear-mongering myself, and this seems like one step towards keeping them honest.

Thanks for the link. It's a definite call back to earth.

I don't think it's mean at all. As you said, journalists need to be kept more honest. They need to learn that some of us know what exaggeration and fear-mongering is; we know when we're being lied to and don't want to take it anymore. Unless they're writing for tabloids, they need to try reporting the facts better.

Pure reporting wouldn't be. Personal comments on the reporters themselves bother me: e.g., the first one refers to "this Randi twit." Name calling strike me as a good way to give up your high ground.

LOL, anger is not good for you skin. That's always the deal with journalism though, some thrive on sensationalism more than others and some are just plain offensive. I already learned my lesson about most US media coverage in the wake of 9/11 so we're not going there again.

Not much to add here, imho.

I can't even start how much most of the (online) reporting has annoyed me. It was so blatantly sensationalized, even from outlets where I wouldn't expect it. Made me revalue what I rely on. Thank you for making me freak out for two whole days :(

Yes, they do want the clicks and that's how they earn the money, but seriously..?
It made it even more obvious to me why I quit my Journalism studies.

(Thanks to physicist dad it was sorted out rather quickly)
