The Library, Friday Evening

May 02, 2014 16:21

For their last night in Fandom, Sholeh had asked Mr. Constantine if she could host a small dinner party in the library. It only seemed fitting; it was her favorite place in the whole school, after all, and these were her favorite people. Okay, Dr. Lecter was more Zhari's guest, but that was fair. After all, they were all leaving ( Read more... )

"Oh, shit." Sparkle really hadn't been expecting it, but his face lit up a little when he spotted the Nanaimo bars. "No way. I haven't seen these things in two years."

It made him feel marginally better about how much he hated the island, and this week, and everything. He'd brought a present for the girls, because of course he wasn't going to let them leave without stocking them up on make-up first, and he'd even shown up sober.

That was how much he cared, Sho. Sober. This week of all weeks.

"Ask me a favour? Sure. What do you have in mind, Girly?"

Sparkle didn't do favours for just anybody, but so far she'd only asked permission to ask him for one. No harm in asking, right?

"Keep an eye on people for me when I'm gone?" Sholeh asked. "I mean, I'm not asking you to be responsible for them or anything, but..."

She wrung her hands a little. She knew that Sparkle didn't want to be responsible for anyone, least of all himself, but she needed to ask.

"I don't want you to throw yourself in front of them when they're about to do something noble and self-sacrificing, but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was just...keeping an ear out. Especially on Evan. He's lost a lot of people recently. Please?"

Sparkle took a moment to look thoughtfully at the kit that Sholeh was talking about, that pale boy with the lips. And the dinosaur.

Huh.

"Yeah, I can do that," he replied. "He looks like he's in pretty good hands when it comes to whatever noble, self-sacrificing crap he might throw himself at, anyway."

Because dinosaur. Where could Sparkle sign up for one of those?

Well, first you needed a dead friend...

"Thanks, Sparkle," Sholeh said, holding out her arms for a hug. "I can't tell you how much I appreciate it."

"Yeah, yeah," Sparkle said, though it didn't sound half as dismissive as he would have liked. Less so, since he was stepping in to meet her in that hug. "That's me in a nutshell, isn't it? Sparkle the Benevolent."

Yeaaaaah.
