It made him feel marginally better about how much he hated the island, and this week, and everything. He'd brought a present for the girls, because of course he wasn't going to let them leave without stocking them up on make-up first, and he'd even shown up sober.

She wrung her hands a little. She knew that Sparkle didn't want to be responsible for anyone, least of all himself, but she needed to ask.
"I don't want you to throw yourself in front of them when they're about to do something noble and self-sacrificing, but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was just...keeping an ear out. Especially on Evan. He's lost a lot of people recently. Please?"
