Been a while...

Let's see... Good time at Pennsic.  A mostly 17th-Century fall -- Jamestown, Henricus, Saint Mary's.  Lots of range time -- the NoVA PinkPistols chapter is heating up.  Also, went up to Four Quarters Farm for Schützenfest in October. Work is, for the most part, mellowing out now that the election's over. This weekend, however, is  our department's ( Read more... )

so, talk to me about Pennsic. looks like the other half and i will be going next year.

biggest question: what's the campsite's rules about concealed firearms? we both have Utah permits, which would work in PA, but i know it's private property. should we leave the heaters at home?

Campground rules are no (non-period) firearms, at all. Some people who drive, lock their guns in the car for the two weeks. Or, leave 'em at home. Locked in the car (which won't be opened for a couple weeks except maybe town runs) is kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" exception.

In general, there's no need to carry a gun for protection. You're surrounded by 10,000 people, a goodly proportion of whom are armed with knives, swords, and whatnot. In 30+ years, I can count the number of assaults that I've heard of (mostly domestics) without taking my boots off.

I've got a Pennsic Survival guide on my website -- Look under "Classes" at http://www.3fgburner.net/#info

ah, thankee sir. i've just heard things, and as a woman who won't be attached to her partner at all times, i am concerned for my personal safety. i suppose a period-looking knife should be sufficient?

Hm... Be interesting to find out where you heard things from... In general, damn near everybody's got a knife on. They're pretty much always used for cutting duct tape, eating, stirring coffee, Swiss-army type things. Trouble-type stuff that I've heard of centered around inebriation and miscommunication, that kind of thing, with the occasional asshole thrown in.
