His headphones were placed over his ears, his face hit by the wind constantly and his eyes always fixed several meters in front of him. Kyungsoo’s legs pedaled automatically, making his bike move forward as he headed for the garage where his band held its rehearsals. Kyungsoo was late and he had never been late before. It annoyed him more than it should but he couldn’t help it - the lecturer at his university had taken more time than he should to end the damn class.

Kyungsoo sped up, only looking forward and not even bothering to pay attention to those who shouted at him. He pushed his way through the crowd, nearly making an old lady fall to the ground. Kyungsoo couldn’t really care less about a woman getting a scratch; his rehearsal, his life, was far more important than that.

To get to the garage, Kyungsoo had to pedal across the street so he mindlessly turned to the right and headed for the crosswalk. He took a short and careless glance to see if there was a car coming closer but that was all he did. After all, he only cared about getting to the other side, his eyes blind to the red light.

Someone at the other side of the road seemed to be shouting something at him. Kyungsoo raised an eyebrow at the man, wondering what the hell he was shouting at him for… and then he was falling.

Kyungsoo was pretty lucky. Anyone who saw what had happened would say the same. The car had seen him early enough; enough for his speed to be rather slow when it hit the back wheel of Kyungsoo’s bike. The bike spooned and leaned to the side, making Kyungsoo fall helplessly on the ground.

It hurt when Kyungsoo hit his head against the concrete, his headphones falling down next to him. He wasn’t aware of it but a second car nearly crushed his head. Kyungsoo was too dizzy, his vision too blurry and confusion made him unable to notice anything properly. The only thing he felt was the heat from the people surrounding him, asking him if he was alright.

“Excuse me!” A voice stood out from the crowd and Kyungsoo picked up on it. “Excuse me, let me get to him. I’m a medicine student! Excuse me. Please, stay back… he needs space.”

People apparently listened to him because the number of onlookers in Kyungsoo’s sight drastically decreased, and were substituted by the owner of the voice who had just spoken. Kyungsoo closed his eyes for a moment.

“Please, try to keep your eyes open. You over there, please call an ambulance.” Kyungsoo felt two fingers being pressed onto his neck before two hands touched his head as if it was made of glass; those same hands inspected the rest of his body as well, touching but at the same time barely doing so. “Hey, open your eyes.” The hand on his cheek was cold. “Hey, look at me.”

It was damn hard to do what he was being told to but Kyungsoo eventually did it, opening his eyes and trying his best to get rid of the blurriness. When his vision clear, he found himself facing...a rather handsome guy.

“Hello,” The guy smiled and Kyungsoo focused his sight on his lips, weakly blinking. “Someone already called an ambulance, you’ll be alright. Try to keep your eyes open for as long as possible, okay?” Kyungsoo could only blink and nod lightly as an answer but the guy seemed to be really happy about the fact that he was able to do that. And then he was smiling again and looking at Kyungsoo while holding his hand. “Good. Don’t worry, you’ll be alright. Can you tell me what your name is?”

That guy was...really handsome. Where the hell did he find a face like that? Even Kyungsoo wanted one like that.

“Hey, can you hear me?” Kyungsoo noticed the other’s sudden concerned expression but he didn’t quite understand why. He was too beautiful, really.

“Damn…” Kyungsoo whispered, his vision suddenly getting all blurry again. “You really are b-…”

Kyungsoo was feeling sleepy. Really sleepy. So he closed his eyes again.

“Hey, please open your eyes.” Kyungsoo wanted to obey, but he really couldn’t. “Stay with me, please!”

It was a pity but Kyungsoo couldn’t do what the stranger was telling him to. He heard him shout but he couldn’t understand what he was saying anymore. The last thing he heard before he slipped to unconsciousness was a siren.

Ah, seems like Kyungsoo was unable to finish his sentence.

------

Murmurs and incomprehensible words invaded Kyungsoo’s ears when he slowly started waking up. His head hurt right away but it was, somewhat, bearable. He took his time, not even bothering to try to understand what the others were saying because he only wanted to the gain the energy he needed to open his eyes. Kyungsoo really wanted to know where he was since that thing where he was lying was definitely not his bed.

He took a rather long time to do so but at least, he could begin to pick up on the strains of voices. They were talking about an accident and how the hell did they know his name?

Kyungsoo's eyelids moved a little and he was able to see the first light. The men talking immediately ended their conversation and even when his eyes closed Kyungsoo could feel them staring at him. A few seconds later, he tried to open his eyes again. It took a lot of struggling to get used to the brightness but he was able to block the light with his hand to make his task a little easier.

"...soo?" They were calling him. "Mr. Do Kyungsoo?" The voice was thick and old and after searching for a while he found a grey haired man staring down at him, smiling. Kyungsoo turned his head to the other side. "How are you feeling?"

Kyungsoo wasn't listening to him anymore because the other man in the room looking at him had a face he remembered, which helped him figure out what had happened and where the hell he was supposed to be.

Kyungsoo remembered riding a bicycle way too fast and then heading to the crosswalk. He had not even seen the red light and a car had hit his bike, making him fall. And then there was the guy who was with him after he fell, asking him to stay awake, and that man was now staring at him again with a smile. Kyungsoo then remembered his smile and just how beautiful the guy was and, of course, still is.

"Mr. Do, I'm Dr. Byeol. This is Kim Jongin, the man who assisted you and an intern and medicine student working at this hospital. Do you recognise him?"

"Of course." Kyungsoo replied, clearing his throat because his voice certainly didn't come out as he expected. Annoyed, Kyungsoo tried to sit up and somehow he managed to succeed despite the pain that he realised now to not only be in his head (even if it was the worst) but in his whole body as well. Kim Jongin and the doctor immediately told him to lie back down but he was stubborn enough to go forward and sit down, leaning his back against the headboard - it hurt, but it’s not like he was going to admit it. “He is the guy who kept yelling at me to keep my eyes open.”

“I’m sorry about that,” Jongin chuckled and Kyungsoo felt his fists clenching, ready to hit him because god damn it he was too much. And he was an intern, Dr. Byeol said? Well, Dr. Kim Jongin can take care of him whenever he wants. “I needed to do that just in case you had some kind of severe brain damage. You could slip into a coma if I didn’t keep you awake.”

“I see,” Kyungsoo breathed in deeply and crossed his bruised and scratched arms. “Does that mean I don’t have any severe brain damage then?”

“Ah, yes, that’s right.” Dr. Byeol replied. “ We did some exams and it seems like you’ve only suffered from a small traumatism and a few bruises and scratches.”

“Does that mean I can leave today?”

“Not exactly. We’ll keep you here for tonight and probably tomorrow for observation just to be sure that the traumatism won’t have any other unpredictable consequences.” Dr. Byeol smiled but it did not have the effect Jongin’s smile had on him. “Plus, your body will be very sore tomorrow. Resting will do well to you, Mr. Do.”

“Right.” Kyungsoo raised one eyebrow. “By the way, how do you know my name?”

“I found your documents in your backpack.” Jongin replied, looking somewhat sorry for having touched Kyungsoo’s stuff. “We needed an identification.”

“That’s okay.” Kyungsoo looked at his backpack, abandoned on a sofa placed not that far from the bed where he was lying, and something clicked inside his head. “Shit.” Without even thinking, Kyungsoo threw back the covers from himself but his body soon warned him that wasn’t a very smart idea and Jongin quickly helped him back to his former position - lying down, despite the smaller boy’s protests. “I need to make a call, okay?”

“I’ll go get your phone if you allow me to.”

Kyungsoo groaned something incoherent but ended up giving him permission anyway, his eyes following every move he made while a storm raging inside Kyungsoo’s mind only made his brain hurt even more. He had just missed his band’s rehearsal which never happened before. To make it worse, that rehearsal was an important one since they were having a concert in less than a week. He was so screwed.

He grabbed the phone from Jongin’s hands and quickly dialed his band mate's number. Jongin watched the other attentively, hearing him apologize over and over again without even explaining what had happened. The intern guessed he was apologizing for missing something because of the accident. When he ended the call, he looked more tired than ever as he ran his hand over his hair.

There was a momentary silence. Kyungsoo was frowning as he thought about what his bandmate had just said. He has been in the band for a year now but the others were already a group when he joined and Kyungsoo has always tried his best to never let them down since he is living his dream with them. Then this happens, because of his own fault, and he feels like shit, since Kyungsoo wouldn’t be in the hospital if he was a little less of an airhead. Jongin just kept watching.

“I’m sorry,” Kyungsoo started. “But I don’t think I’ll be able to spend two days here. I mean, I can stay the night but no more than that.”

“That wouldn’t be recommended. You should rest.”

“I can’t.”

“Maybe if you told whoever called you what happened, you could-”

“No.” Kyungsoo was firm. “I won’t miss any more rehearsals.”

“Look if I care.” Rolling his eyes, Kyungsoo turned his body around and lied on his side, wanting nothing more than to rest like the other had said. He didn't really like it when people interfered in another’s business without even knowing a thing about their lives. Kyungsoo would be fine soon. A few bruises weren't going to stop him.

Jongin glanced at the other, feeling the tension growing between them. Medicine students are progressively taught on how to deal with different types of situations, different types of patients but at that moment, Jongin was clearly lost on what he should do.

“I think we started on the wrong foot somewhere,” Jongin started, trying to somehow get the other to speak. A doctor must always keep a good relationship with his patient.

“No shit.” Kyungsoo could be really rude when he wanted to, just to regret it a second later. “I’m sorry.”

“That’s alright…”

A doctor-patient relationship should also be strictly professional.

“So, you missed a rehearsal,” Jongin scratched the back of his neck. “Are you in any music group or…?”

Kyungsoo frowned and turned around, looking back at the other.

“Why do you wanna know?”

“Oh, I-I’m just asking. You don’t have to-”

“I’m in a band,” Kyungsoo answered anyway, turning his back around once again. “I sing.”

“Really? You must sing well to be in a band then.”

“We’re just an indie group. We play at bars and stuff.”

“And just because you’re an indie group does that mean you don’t sing that well?”

“You never heard me sing.” Jongin opened his mouth. “And no, I’m not singing for you.”

“I wasn’t going to ask you to do that.” Jongin cleared his throat, embarrassed, since he was just about to do that. “But I was thinking…” Jongin stood up from the couch and walked around the bed where Kyungsoo was resting, till he could see the other’s face. “If it’s just singing, then maybe we can let you go for a couple of hours since it doesn’t really require that much physical effort anyway. If you’re careful and sit down during your rehearsals, of course.”

Kyungsoo looked up at Jongin, his eyes widening.

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah,” Jongin rubbed the back of his neck, which seemed to be an habit the med student had. “I’ll talk to my superior and see what I can do.”

“Why the hell would you do that?”

“I have a feeling you would try to run away if we insist on keeping you here which would only result in more pain for you since you would either escape and not rest enough or be stopped by the security guards who would definitely leave even more bruises on you.” Jongin smiled. “I’m just caring for my patient’s health.”

Kyungsoo chuckled.

“Can I already be considered your patient when you’re not even a real doctor yet?”

“You’re really incredibly kind.”

Jongin sulked. He was actually, without a doubt, sulking. Kyungsoo couldn’t help but laugh at how cute the other looked. Are all the medicine students like this? Jongin checked his watch suddenly, as if he had forgotten about something incredibly important.

“I gotta go. My shift starts in a few minutes.” Sighing, he turned to look at the other. “Don’t run away before I tell you something, okay?”

“Okay.” There was something, however, that didn’t really make sense in Kyungsoo’s mind. “But what do you mean your shift is starting? Aren’t you working right now?”

“Not really.”

“Then why the hell are you taking care of me?”

“Well, I did see your accident and assisted you. I couldn’t just leave you alone. I felt somehow responsible for you.”

“Still… I think that’s a bit unnecessary.” Kyungsoo thought about it for a moment. “Would the other med students do the same if they were in the same situation?”

“Some would, others would leave right after they had left you at the hospital and there are even a few who wouldn’t move a finger even if they saw your accident.” Jongin opened the room’s door, smiling at the other. “I guess you’re just pretty lucky I was the one who found you. I’m pretty nice, right?”

Kyungsoo shrugged, rolling his eyes at the same time. Jongin chuckled but eventually left, leaving the patient alone. The wide eyed male looked up at the ceiling and smirked at what the other had said. He was damn lucky, Kyungsoo knew it. Jongin was not only beautiful but a nice guy as well. He might have just won the jackpot...even if he is not sure if he’ll want to get the prize yet.

------

Somehow, even with all the doubts Kyungsoo had, Jongin still managed to tell him the good news later. Apparently the doctor was going to let him leave for a couple of hours but during that time Kyungsoo would be under Jongin’s responsibility.

“Which mean, you’re in deep shit if something happens to me.” Kyungsoo concluded, crossing his arms.

“I wouldn’t use those words but yes. You can’t get worse or hurt yourself anymore in your absence.” Jongin sighed, rubbing his forehead. “I could go to your rehearsal to make sure you’re fine but-”

“No fucking way.”

“...I have classes, so don’t worry. I can’t go but I might be at the hospital already when you come back.”

“Good.”

“But that means you need to behave.”

“Who the hell do you think I am? A kid?”

“Not a kid but you do sound like a pretty stubborn guy even if I know nothing about you. Just promise me not to get any worse.”

It was a rather dumb promise to make in Kyungsoo’s opinion, since no one would willingly hurt himself more, but he still said the words the other wanted.

“I still can’t understand why you’re doing this, though.” Kyungsoo insisted as the other checked over his wounds and bruises.

“I must ensure a patient’s health.”

“That really sounds like bullshit. You look like you’re-”

“No, I don’t have a crush on you.” Kyungsoo smirked when Jongin said exactly what he was thinking.

“Are you sure?”

“I am. You’re definitely not my type. Plus, it would be strictly unprofessional to have a crush on a patient.”

Kyungsoo's mouth fell open. He wanted to say something back like 'you aren't my type' either but the words got stuck in his mouth. No one had ever told him that and he actually felt a little offended. He had to clench his jaw to stop himself from asking what the hell was wrong about him to not be considered Jongin's type. He stayed quiet till Jongin finished and didn't even say a word back when Jongin left the room and wished him goodbye.

Kyungsoo was offended because his pride had been incredibly hurt and this was just not fair. Kyungsoo had to be Jongin's type because the med student was definitely the singer's type.

What the hell is he thinking?!

------

Kyungsoo left on the next day 15 minutes before the rehearsal and took a taxi because even if their garage wasn't that far, it wasn't that close either. Junmyeon, the leader and drummer of the group, couldn't believe what he was hearing when Kyungsoo told him about the accident after seeing the bruises and he immediately wanted to send the singer back to the hospital. But Kyungsoo was stubborn enough to lie and say he could do whatever he wanted, that it was only a few meaningless bruises. Junmyeon was a little skeptical but he had no way to contact the doctor and he knew well enough that his friend wouldn't give up that easily. So the rehearsal started.

They started with the slower and easier songs to warm up like usual and Kyungsoo was actually satisfied to be singing at the moment. Staying at the hospital and skipping a rehearsal was as unnecessary as he had thought. He was fine… for some time.

When the rhythm of the songs sped up and its volume increased, demanding more from Kyungsoo's voice, the latter's head started to hurt. It was bearable at first but after hitting the high notes and listening to those terribly loud chords and drums, it made the pain increase tenfold until Kyungsoo couldn't take it anymore.

"Stop!" Kyungsoo shouted, covering his ears with his hands and trying to walk away from the wires, not even looking at where he was going. He ended up tripping on a electric cable and his whole world went dizzy when a pain around his ankle was added to the pain he was already feeling. His first thought was that Jongin would definitely get mad at him.

His bandmates rushed to help him stand up and asked him if he was okay even when from Kyungsoo's point of view it was obvious he wasn't: his ankle was killing him.

"We should call an ambulance." Junmyeon said, a worried look on his face as he grabbed his phone.

"Don't even think about it!" Kyungsoo shouted, grasping his hand around the other's phone. Without even thinking he put his weight on his right ankle and he almost winced in pain. "I'm fine, okay?"

"You need to go to the hospital. You shouldn't have come, obviously."

"I will go back to the hospital but not in an ambulance! Anything but that...please."

If he arrived to the hospital in an ambulance, Jongin would be screwed.

Junmyeon sighed, not understanding the other's actions, but he listened to the younger and called a taxi. Once again, Kyungsoo acted weird when he said he didn't want anyone to accompany him to the hospital. Well, whether he wanted it or not, Junmyeon was going to visit him at the hospital later.

Kyungsoo tried his best to cover up how bad his ankle was hurting on the way to the taxi but walking like that wasn't that simple. He was really relieved when he finally sat down inside the car and didn't have to handle the other’s worried and judging eyes anymore.

He arrived at the hospital rather quickly and after identifying himself, he headed to his room, always careful to hide the fact that he was limping and in pain, moving quickly and discreetly, and doing his best to mix with the other people. He almost had a heart attack when he saw Dr. Byeol.

He ran away as fast as he could from the doctor and he couldn’t even explain how relieved he felt when he finally saw the door to his room. No one had seen him... which means Jongin was safe for now and he could finally rest.

However, as soon as Kyungsoo reached his hand towards the door, it is suddenly opened from the inside, revealing an equally surprised Jongin. They didn't exchange any words but Jongin noticed the way Kyungsoo was putting his weight on one foot only. The med student remained silent as he stepped aside and let the other go in, quickly closing the door behind them.

------

Kyungsoo watched Jongin wrap the bandage around his ankle as he leaned back against the headboard and admired the way the white coat fell so perfectly on the other's body, a black sweater underneath. Jongin really did make a clever choice when he decided to be a doctor. Not to mention that he was also very gentle and careful.

Kyungsoo winced a little when Jongin tightened the gauze a little more.

"I'm sorry," Jongin said, focusing his eyes on what he was doing. "But it must be tight. I'm almost done though."

Ah, that's right. Jongin was not acting like he usually did He looked as if he was upset even though Kyungsoo couldn't really get why.

"How's your head?" Jongin asked, finishing the bandaging. He gave Kyungsoo a pill after the latter complained about his headache before.

"It's getting better."

"That's good. If you don't have anything else you need help with, I can-"

"Why are you upset?"

Jongin was already facing away and towards the door when Kyungsoo asked that question yet he still stopped half way and looked towards Kyungsoo's direction.

"I'm not upset."

"Yes, you are. You have been avoiding eye contact since I came back. Are you mad at me because I twisted my ankle?"

"No, that could have happened here as well."

"Then what? I don't see any other reason. Whatever I did, I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault. It's mine." Jongin sighed, running a hand through his neck. "I shouldn’t have let you go. I should have known that the band's music would be too loud, especially since your head is not in its best condition right now. You should have just rested. That headache was totally unnecessary."

"It's just an headache-"

"And a headache can be a sign that the trauma might not be as light as we thought it was. Your headache might be covering a symptom." Jongin clenched his fist. "I should have thought about it sooner. Because of my mistake you must stay under observation for a couple of days more to make sure that headache doesn’t have any other causes.”

"But I-"

"There is really no other choice this time, Mr. Do." Jongin headed to the door again and left. Kyungsoo’s admiration for Jongin only increased. He remained quiet while looking at the door for a rather long time. Then he suddenly moved and grabbed the remote to turn on the TV.

------

Jongin didn't get back to Kyungsoo's room for the rest of the day or the day after. The only visits he got during that time were from the nurses, Dr. Byeol (who checked everything, including his ankle, even though he never asked questions about what happened) and his bandmates. Kyungsoo felt like throwing the remote at their faces when they appeared because he had strictly told them not to come when they called. It was unnecessary and bothersome - Kyungsoo didn't really like to show them his weak side. But at least he had some company for a while.

Whenever he was alone and felt like doing something more than just watch TV or sleep, Kyungsoo would walk around the hospital. One of the nurses had given him crutches which was the only thing that allowed him to walk around with very little pain. Sometimes he saw Jongin rushing to another place or talking to other students or doctors. Kyungsoo stared at Jongin for a long time whenever this happened but their eyes never met.

They only saw and spoke to each other again on Kyungsoo's last day at the hospital. Jongin knocked at Kyungsoo's door and came in when he was given permission to.

There was a moment of silent. Kyungsoo had changed his clothes already and was ready to leave when the other came in. Jongin walked towards where the crutches were before helping Kyungsoo hold his bag, the one Junmyeon had brought him with a new set of clothes.

"I've been avoiding you lately." Jongin admitted, an arm wrapped around Kyungsoo's waist as he guided him to the door.

"I know.”

“I’m sorry about that. I wasn’t mad at you.”

“I know.”

Jongin opened the room’s door and let Kyungsoo step out before closing it once again.

“You sure know a lot about me then.”

“Not really… but I get it. You were upset because you made a mistake. Nothing else.”

The med student smiled but didn’t add anything to what Kyungsoo had told him. He guided Kyungsoo to the exit, helping him getting inside the cab with as much gentleness as possible. Then before the cab parted, Jongin leaned down towards the window.

“I forgot to tell you something.” Kyungsoo glanced up at the other. “You should come back in a couple of weeks. To see how your ankle is and to check if there were any repercussions because of the accident.”

“Alright.”

“But if something happens before the two weeks are up, don’t hesitate to come.”

Kyungsoo had to look away so as not to laugh in front of the med student but he still managed to reply.

“Of course.”

------

Those two weeks went by really slowly. Kyungsoo was unable to walk as freely as he would like and even though he had two concerts within those weeks, life was just boring. He missed being at the hospital, despite how ridiculous that might sound.

Kyungsoo’s ankle was getting better and so was his head. In a week he could already finish a rehearsal without complaining about a headache. But this just meant that he really didn’t have a reason to go back to the hospital before he was supposed to.

Eventually, the day to meet Jongin again finally arrived and Kyungsoo was actually looking forward to it since he would also get to know if he could walk around normally.

However, the hospital was crowded that day. Doctors and nurses walked around like dizzy cockroaches and there were really too many people in the waiting room. He was glad when he was finally called by the nurse. Things did not go as he had expected though. Jongin was as busy as the others and when he saw that there were no reasons to worry over, he sent Kyungsoo home just like he would do with any other patient - even if the apologetic glance he sent him was for Kyungsoo only.

The rehearsal he had that day didn’t go that well.

After what had happened, Kyungsoo just wanted to go back and he used the cold he caught in one rainy day after going to his rehearsal without an umbrella as the reason to visit Jongin. It could be easily treated at home without seeing a doctor but Kyungsoo could just pretend he was incredibly worried about his condition.

Kyungsoo went so suddenly, making an appointment on the day before, that Jongin only realized he was coming when he stepped into the room. There was a rather awkward moment between the two but both knew they couldn’t just carry on like that.

“I’m sorry about last time.” Jongin started. They didn’t even greet each other.

“You couldn’t help it.” Kyungsoo’s voice was rougher and deeper than usual. “There were too many people waiting.”

“Did you catch a cold?”

“Obviously.”

“It’s affecting your throat.” Jongin stood up and walked towards Kyungsoo. “You should have been more careful.

Jongin watched Kyungsoo’s throat first, frowning when he saw how red it was. Then he asked Kyungsoo to take his shirt off and the latter was not prepared for it even though he did it anyway.

The stethoscope was cold against Kyungsoo’s skin as he breathed in and out deeply, trying to control his heartbeat because he knew that Jongin could hear it better than anyone at the moment. But it was rather useless. His red skin stung where the stethoscope and Jongin’s hands touched him. Kyungsoo just hoped that the other didn’t look at his face. He was really hot when it was over and Kyungsoo quickly put his shirt on. Jongin went back to his desk, and Kyungsoo wondered what he was thinking of at the moment.

Then Jongin asked Kyungsoo if he had these particular pills. The answer was affirmative which meant that Jongin didn’t have to call a doctor to be able to write a prescription.

“Now that you mention it -aren’t you too young to be here all by yourself already?” Kyungsoo asked. That question had been in his head since he came in.

“True. But Dr. Byeol had an emergency and trusted me enough to leave me by myself for a while.”

“But you can’t write a prescription by yourself and you have to call another doctor in case you need it.”

“That’s true.”

“Then isn’t it kind of useless to leave you alone.”

Jongin coughed, covering up his laugh.

“Nice as always, I see.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Anyway, try to rest and keep yourself warm. Drink warm liquids and try some honey as well if you like it.”

“Thank you.” The two stood up and shook hands. “Anything else, doctor?”

“Oh, I’m a doctor now?” Jongin mockingly asked considering that Kyungsoo had said he was definitely not a doctor before, raising an eyebrow and still holding onto Kyungsoo’s hand.

“I just wanted to try saying it once.”

“Very well. If it gets worse, you must come back.”

“I will.”

The two realized all too well what the real meaning of those words were and Kyungsoo can actually say that this meeting that they had was a lot better than the other one; a success he could actually say.

After this second encounter, Kyungsoo came back many times more. He never made anything up. Kyungsoo just used meaningless things that had happened to him as a reason to visit Jongin. His throat was the main reason for most of his visits of course since he could always say that he was worried about his throat not being in a good enough condition to be able to sing.

Kyungsoo and Jongin met several times. They were usually alone but sometimes Dr. Byeol was there as well. Kyungsoo wasn’t complaining though. The effect of those meetings was the one he hoped for.

It was several weeks later, when Kyungsoo went to see Jongin again because of his throat that the first step was taken. Jongin was looking at Kyungsoo’s throat, gently holding onto the latter’s chin, when the singer suddenly held onto Jongin’s white coat and pulled him down. He didn’t do anything. He just pulled Jongin close enough to his face so that the other could get a clue about what he really wanted to do.

“Who’s going to move first, doctor?” Kyungsoo whispered, loving the way Jongin’s jaw clenched when he did that.

“Right now? No one.” Yet Jongin didn’t move away.

"Why?"

"You’re a patient. Moving would go against the hospital's policy."

"Oh, I see." Kyungsoo let go of Jongin's coat and Jongin quickly relaxed, raising his head and walking towards his own chair. "How's my throat?"

"It looks like nothing serious. Just rest your voice till tomorrow."

"Alright." Kyungsoo stood up and made it clear by moving closer to the door that he was leaving. However, just before opening the door, he searched for something in his pants pockets and threw it at Jongin. The med student held the paper with a confused expression. "You can show up at my concert if you want ."

And just like that Kyungsoo left, leaving Jongin staring at the ticket he had just been given. The latter ended up smirking, tucking the ticket safely inside his pocket.

------

Kyungsoo's concert was just that Friday night and Jongin was very lucky to not have a shift that night. ERO, Kyungsoo's band, would be playing at a well known bar and Jongin couldn't help but be slightly surprised when he saw where the concert was. Jongin was really looking forward to it.

Jongin arrived right on time for the concert that day and Kyungsoo spotted him right away when he stepped on the stage; Jongin was leaning against the bar's counter at the right side of the stage, a glass of orange juice on his side. Kyungsoo couldn't help but smile at the sight because of course Jongin wouldn't drink alcohol. He should have known. Jongin saw him looking at him and even while the band prepared themselves, the two couldn't get their eyes off of each other. Kyungsoo had to admit that he was nervous though. Not everyone liked his voice.

They started 15 minutes later, with Kyungsoo sitting on a chair as the first chords of a ballad were played. He started slowly, gently and Jongin's eyes shone, chin falling slightly open when he heard the first note.

Smooth. If Jongin wanted to describe Kyungsoo's voice he would use the word smooth; smooth, beautiful, gentle but at the same time strong. There's just a bit of everything. In the middle of the song, Kyungsoo stood up and the ballad was substituted by a powerful and loud rhythm that contrasted quite well with Kyungsoo's voice. Jongin fell completely silent. He was amazed.

The crowd cheered after every song even if Kyungsoo was singing for only one person that night. Sometimes Kyungsoo would make everyone sing and shout with him, hoping to see Jongin do the same. But the most he did was to smile at him while raising his glass, never losing his posture.

That bastard.

Kyungsoo was already expecting that though. Jongin wouldn't be Jongin if he cheered like anyone else. The concert was too short, for both of them, but there was still some hope, especially after Kyungsoo discreetly moved his index finger towards him, which Jongin immediately understood. He hoped he could hear one more song though, even if the public had asked for three more already.

Jongin waited for a while before leaving his place at the bar and observed the crowd. People were still talking about the performance, about how surprisingly good it was. Jongin couldn't agree more. But there seemed to be some followers of the band already commenting on how handsome Kyungsoo had looked that night. Jongin walked away after hearing this, caught between completely different emotions for the first time since he had met Kyungsoo. Till then Jongin had never felt such a possessive emotion towards Kyungsoo, even if he considered him his patient before.

The backstage was easy to find and even though the security guard didn't want to let him in or any of the girls begging to go in, Kyungsoo passed by the entrance door just in time to see Jongin and asked the guard to let him in. Jongin smirked at the guard and the girls around him. He felt strangely happy to hear all the whining which followed his entrance.

"Follow me." Kyungsoo said, guiding Jongin to another hallway and feeling his heartbeat quickening. He was glad to reach his private (because he had strictly told the others to fuck off) changing room and finally lock himself in there with Jongin.

"You came." Kyungsoo stated the obvious, turning around to look at Jongin from head to toe. He was all dressed in black except for his pure white sneakers. Jongin definitely looked good.

"Yes-" Kyungsoo moved fast and without hesitation - and kissed Jongin. He stood on his toes and wrapped his arms around Jongin, pressing their lips together. Considering what had happened the previous time, Kyungsoo was a little afraid of rejection. But that never came. Jongin only gripped his waist and pulled him even closer, holding onto Kyungsoo's hair and deepening the kiss. They would both be lying shamelessly if they said they hadn't been dreaming about this for ages now. Kyungsoo had been wanting to do it since the first time he saw Jongin right after the accident and Jongin since he saw Kyungsoo opening his eyes at the hospital's bed for the first time. Yet, back then it was too soon to move; they would never admit how easily they had been drawn to each other. It's not every day you feel an uncontrollable need to kiss a stranger.

Their lips moved softly and their tongues slid across each other, tasting and exploring each other's mouth for the first time and they were enjoying it more than they would ever admit. It was hot and breathtaking. They had to eventually pull away from each other. Kyungsoo looked up, panting slightly.Jongin's face seemed to be a reflection of his own and he could see the same desire growing in the other’s eyes.

"How far is your home by car?" Jongin asked, stroking Kyungsoo's hair away from his face.

"15 minutes."

"Then we’re going to my apartment tonight."

The way they ran to Jongin's car was childish and careless. Kyungsoo didn't have the patience to inform his bandmates where he was going, turning off his phone on purpose. He did not want to be disturbed since he had more important things to do at the moment. Jongin was a pretty fast driver and in 10 minutes they were opening the door of Jongin's apartment, closing the door with their feet as soon as they got in.

"Do you need-" Jongin started, but was quickly silenced by a pair of full lips.

"You."

It was all too fast. Jongin's shirt disappeared as they moved down the hallway and Kyungsoo's pants had suffered the same fate before they got to the room and fell down onto Jongin’s bed. Neither of them had the habit of moving so fast with their partners but they had been holding back for so long. The sexual frustration built up by all those appointments, which had involved Kyungsoo taking his shirt off, ran through their minds, making Jongin crave for more.

Jongin explored Kyungsoo's thighs, nibbling and caressing them softly, his nose not so accidentally bumping against Kyungsoo's crotch and making the shorter boy squirm uncomfortably, quickly pulling Jongin up to kiss him.

"Is this your first time or...?" Jongin asked, his hands gripping Kyungsoo's ass tightly while bringing their waists together.

"No." Kyungsoo raised Jongin's head and looked at him. "Is that a problem?"

"Not at all. I can do it faster this way." Jongin leaned in to kiss Kyungsoo again but the latter stopped him, looking at the other with hesitation.

"Wait..." Kyungsoo's chest tightened a little. "This is not suppose to be something… fast is it?"

"You mean?"

"I mean… it’s not just a one night thing is it?"

"Ah, so that's what you mean." Jongin chuckled, kissing Kyungsoo's cheek. "Don't worry. I fell in love with you a long time ago. I don't want this to be that kind of fast. But right now… I just really need you." Kyungsoo blinked a couple of times, taking in what Jongin's words meant and then he pushed the other to go on.

All their clothes were gone pretty soon. His paleness contrasted sharply with Jongin's tanned skin and Jongin was really, really warm. Their hands took care of each other’s arousals first, pumping each other until they were both hard. Then Jongin used his mouth on Kyungsoo, running his tongue over the slit and bobbing his head up and down quickly till Kyungsoo’s beautiful voice echoed in the room, begging for more, as he tried to distract Kyungsoo from his fingers. Even with lube and since Kyungsoo hadn't done it in a while, that was definitely needed. Suddenly, Kyungsoo gripped the sheets tightly, arching his back in surprise not that long after Jongin slid in the first finger.

"How the hell did you-" Kyungsoo bit his lower lip halfway through his sentence, feeling Jongin's finger brushing right against his prostate.

"I might not be a doctor yet...but I do know a few things about anatomy, Kyungsoo." Jongin answered, licking his lips as he watched Kyungsoo's face twitch in pleasure. Jongin added a second finger while still abusing the other's sweet spot with the other and Kyungsoo almost didn't notice it, his mouth wide open in a gasp. The med student moved his fingers skillfully as he stroked himself as well, knowing very well that Kyungsoo was watching him touch himself which only increased the tightness around Jongin's fingers.

"Jongin..." Kyungsoo called, holding into Jongin's arm as he tried his best to control himself. "Just do it already. Please."

"I can hardly say no to you." Jongin did know what he was doing. After removing his fingers, Jongin quickly put on a condom and coated himself with lube before entering Kyungsoo. Once again, Kyungsoo was surprised with how fast Jongin hit his prostate, rubbing against it with every thrust. Kyungsoo and Jongin kissed as the latter kept moving, thrusting in faster with every new whimper he took away from Kyungsoo's mouth.

"Jongin, please, more, aaahhh."

"I know, baby, I know." The way Kyungsoo was clenching around him was insane and Jongin had to breathe in several times to be able to control himself.

"Don't hold back..." But Kyungsoo was quick to catch what was going on...so Jongin did what he was told. Holding onto Kyungsoo's hand and the headboard, Jongin sped up, throwing his head back in pleasure and thrusting even deeper when Kyungsoo wrapped his legs around him, pulling him closer.

"Shit..." Kyungsoo moaned. "I'm coming, please..." Jongin looked down, almost regretting it a second later. "Kiss me."

Well, damn it. Jongin kissed Kyungsoo. He let himself go,holding onto the smaller boy. The singer came on Jongin's hand and Jongin didn't take that long to do the same, thrusting a few last times before collapsing on top of Kyungsoo carefully. The two were completely covered with sweat. They were dirty and panting but they didn't really care.

"Do you know what Jongin?" Kyungsoo asked once they were far calmer.

"What?"

"For someone who said I wasn't your type you sure enjoyed it."

"Have you ever heard about lies?" Well, Kyungsoo wasn't expecting such an honest and direct answer. "Yeah..."

"Good. Because what I'm about to say is definitely not a lie." Raising his head, Jongin pecked Kyungsoo's lips. "I did fall in love with you."

"That..." Kyungsoo's face turned red with embarrassment. "That should be my line."

"And you're incredibly beautiful too."

"Once again, that is my line." Kyungsoo sighed. It was his line with no mistake. It wasn't his fault that he had fainted before saying it after the accident. But it's not like he was not going to have the chance say this to Jongin again (if he actually wanted to).

------

The two started dating after this. It was slightly hard since Kyungsoo's band was gaining popularity and the number of concerts they had increased. Jongin, in his fifth grade of med school, was always working around the hospital. But they managed it just fine. Whenever Kyungsoo thought that they weren't spending that much time together he would make an appointment with Dr. Byeol which would definitely take him to Jongin; and many times Jongin would go and watch his boyfriend's concerts since his increased popularity meant more predators around him. Jongin was definitely not amused when fans started throwing bras at his boyfriend one night. However, they were able to find time for themselves at night when they were finally alone.

Everything went fine and time only increased their feelings towards each other. Kyungsoo could be a little bossy sometimes and Jongin too soft, always doing whatever the other told him and pampering him too much, but it worked for them. Not to mention that Kyungsoo loved the contrast between Jongin at the hospital, who won't even let him kiss him properly because they might get caught, and the Jongin he had at home, who kissed Kyungsoo whenever he could. Sometimes they fought because of useless or serious matters but they were usually able to work it out. Sometimes Jongin got jealous, other times it was Kyungsoo. Sometimes Jongin wanted to snuggle with Kyungsoo and never let go. Sometimes Kyungsoo wanted to throw Jongin out through the window.

There was, however, a big obstacle to their relationship once Jongin got an offer to take his PhD in New York.

"You should go." Kyungsoo replied.

"How can you answer so fast?"

"It's a great opportunity and I don't want you to miss it just because of me."

"But we’ll be apart for one or two years!"

"Who decides how long you stay?"

"Well, it depends on the results of my research but-"

"Then you better get those damn results fast." Kyungsoo poked Jongin’s forehead.

"Soo, baby-"

"I'm serious, Jongin."

"I know. And that's what's scaring me..." Jongin sighed.

"Because you wanna go..."

"But I want you to hold me back at the same time."

"It will be fine, Jongin." Kyungsoo held onto his lover tightly. "We'll be fine."

"I’m not decided yet. I'll think about it."

"No, you won't."

"Then come with me."

"You know I can't." Jongin was a mess that night and Kyungsoo might have felt him crying at some point in his shoulder, making him tear up. This was 3 months before Kyungsoo took Jongin to the airport to say goodbye.

They didn't cry but they sure took their time to part from each other.

"I'll miss you." Jongin whispered.

"I'll miss you too, love."

"I love you, Kyungsoo." Kyungsoo smiled, snuggling on Jongin's shoulder.

"I'll only say it back when you come back."

Jongin was away for one and a half years. A lot of things happened during that period. ERO recorded their first album and was now promoting it officially. Jongin came back with the necessary data for his thesis which he would be defending in Korea and definitely publishing it later. Their encounter was a very happy and loud one, especially since Kyungsoo would not stop crying. Jongin held him as tight as possible. Although Kyungsoo said that he was fine whenever they talked to each other, he still cried like a baby when he met Jongin again. One of their biggest fears was that their love would fade after so long but they were proven wrong after that night and I'm not even talking about the sex. They just couldn't stop staring at each other's faces as if they had suddenly been taken to heaven.

"Why did you dye your hair red, Soo?"

"I wanted to try something different.”

“Really? Or was your secret lover you asked you to do it?”

“What? Shut up.” Kyungsoo smacked Jongin’s arm. “Why the hell would I cheat on you?”

“Well...you’ve been all alone and you have needs.”

“My hand and your picture were enough, thank you. Even if not even close to the real thing.”

“Oh, my.” Jongin chuckled, nuzzling on his lovers neck. “You haven’t told me about that yet. You need to show me how you did it.”

“Later.” Kyungsoo covered Jongin’s mouth, knowing that the other would just embarrass him more. “But seriously, my hair...Is it that bad when you see it from up close and not through a camera?" He uncovered Jongin’s mouth which the latter had covered with kisses.

"No… it's actually really sexy."

"If you say so" Kyungsoo coughed. "Oh I forgot something."

"What is-" Jongin was punched on the stomach hard enough to make him bend down. "That was for taking one and a half years to come back instead of one."

"Blame it on the rats!"

"You should have killed them then."

"They died all by themselves for 9 months, there was no need to help them on that area, thank you."

"You're welcome. But now here comes the most important thing." Kyungsoo held Jongin's face between his hands, sitting on his lap. "Something that I owe you."

"Are you going to punch me again?"

"No," Kyungsoo leaned in and then he kissed Jongin's lips softly, taking his face between his hands. Then he looked directly at Jongin who was still as beautiful as when he first saw him. He felt his chest growing tight with all the feelings growing inside of him but he had to control himself. He couldn’t cry again.

Jongin just held him tightly, giving Kyungsoo all the time he needed.

"I just wanna say…'I love you back'."
