A plea from your friendly neighborhood spreadsheet writer moderator

I like that people sometimes request and receive obscure fandom threesomes. It's really cool that there's an Errol Flynn movie threesome that was written for this challenge.

However, this is not Yuletide. ( I natter on for a bit, but to sum up: )

I have a question that comes under obscure fandoms and crossovers, I think. Does the rule against crossovers preclude crossing two shows within the same universe - Doctor Who and Torchwood, for example, or The Sarah Jane Adventures (to add the obscure one)?

Yes, it does preclude crossing shows within the same universe. However, characters who have been part of two or more shows can be used in any of the relevant properties. Sarah Jane can be used in either Doctor Who or SJA, but not Torchwood (unless something very odd happens in series 1 Torchwood I'm unaware of) and Capt. Jack Harkness can be on both DW and TW, but not SJA (unless he does, in fact, show in SJA and I just don't know.)

To use a perhaps more au courant example. Buffy/Angel. Faith can be used in either universe. Principal Hottie only applies to Buffy. Lorne only applies to Angel.

How does it work with pinch-hitters? I mean, I only offered the one fandom on the list that I knew well enough to write for, but if someone were to request for a fandom not on the list (say, an obscure fantasy-novel or some such) I might know it and be ready to pounce at a chance to write it.

(For the reasons you listed, I didn't think it either useful or convenient to, like, list my book-and-manga-collection in the Offered-field, but ... well, just wondering. And since I'm bugging you anyway: even if this isn't Yuletide, is there still some sort of New Year's Challenge?)

On December 30, I will open my e-mail, and start marking submissions off on my spreadsheet. I will see that someone who did turn their story in did not receive one. I will check to see which fandoms they requested.

I will check my list of pinch hitters to say which stories they said they could write in. I will forward the signup info to one of the pinch hitters who said they could get the story in, and ask them to return in ~4 days. They say yes and I make a note of it. They say no and I go on to the next person on my list.

The priority list on this is:
1) People trying to make up defaults
2) People who have only signed up to pinchhit
3) People who turned their story in early
4) People who have pinchhit in the past
5) Me or My roommate

In the horrible event that someone has all of their requests in fandoms which no pinchhitter has said they are willing to write, if the fandom is one with which I am familiar I will pinchhit myself. If I am not familiar, I may send a mass e-mail to all of the pinch hitters asking if they could help. ( ... )

Excuse me if this a completely dumb question, but I re-read the rules and FAQ and maybe my eyes just skimmed over this, but is any sort of RPF allowed for this exchange? I'm mainly wondering because there is some that I'd offer to write.

Yes, you may offer or request RPF. CW RPF, BBC RPF, popslash, bandom, rockfic, and individual sports would each count as different fandoms.

Traditionally, we haven't had a large number of RPF requests or offers, so if that's your preference, I would urge that you encourage your friends into RPF to participate in I Saw Three Ships.

Unfortunately, most of my interests are in small fandoms, and I'm not competent to write in large and well known ones like SGA and SPN. Thus, although I've enjoyed participating in the exchange in the past, I may have difficulty in this instance. I have tried to promote 3_ships in relevant communities, like cox_and_co but I won't necessarily know whether this has been fruitful before sign-ups close. I don't want to be a bother, but is there any way you can let me know whether there has been futher interest, and it will be okay to offer a small fandom like Sherlock Holmes? Otherwise, I may cause you more hassle just by participating, and I don't want to do that.

Um, there haven't been any Sherlock Holmes requests. Your community memberships seem to show you like House and Harry Potter. I've got requests for those.
