He never minds the lack of company. It’s when he’s alone that she comes. It would be easy to explain it off as wishful thinking and old guilts weaving her voice out of his mental conversations like an image out of a Rorschach blot. The truth is, though, that when Fenrir’s rumble fades to the background like an extension of his body’s pulse that his mind can open and he can smell flowers and fresh water. Her voice was just as sweet.
He was able to tell her what he hadn’t before in those times. Apologies, confessions, and little things simply left unsaid for whatever reason. She never said what he expected she would. Didn’t that mean it might be real? If it was just a daydream, wouldn’t he have to provide the script and wouldn’t she be more accusing, more condemning if her voice was one of his own?
Whatever it was and whatever it meant, he wasn’t lonely and just maybe, wasn’t alone.
