Her cheeks were flushed and there was a sparkle in her eye that he’d never seen before, that he’d always hoped would shine for him someday and not Fuwa Sho.
“He got on his hands and knees and begged me for forgiveness, really begged! I- I couldn’t believe it.” She averted her eyes as if even the memory embarrassed her, and he suddenly felt helpless. “He told me he should have seen who I was all along. How beautiful and strong and se-sexy,” she whispered the last word, “I am. And if he weren’t so self-absorbed, he would been the first and only one to see it.” She looked up him, joy blooming in her face. “Do you see? He loves me. He really does love me.”
There must have been a cracking sound because Ren definitely felt his heart break in that moment. How could she look like that and say those words at the same time?
“Mogami-san, if I--if I were to say that I can’t--” how could he say this without making her hate him? “I don’t think Fuwa can make you happy. If it were any other man but him,” he searched her face, “do you see what I mean?”
“No, I think you’re wrong, Tsuruga-san. Sho is the only one who can make me happy. It’s always been him, don’t you see? There never will be any man but him for me.” And suddenly, she was Mio. “Not even you.”
He woke up with a start, feeling as if he’d been falling for miles before landing on his bed. His heart was pounding and his face was wet. The knot in his throat finally loosened as he oriented himself. Just a nightmare, just a nightmare. He ran a hand through his disheveled hair. But how long until that dream becomes a reality?
