Title: There Are No Hollow Places
Day/Theme: June 1, "there exists a world"
Series: Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Character/Pairing: Soma/Marie
Rating: PG
The heart is a thing made of chambers and the rushing of blood. Soma knows this, because she knows over a hundred ways to stop someone's heart. She resists the urge to wonder what is in hers. There is probably nothing, she thinks, and she wonders why thinking that hurts.
The brain is a mass of interlinked neurons, all firing electrical impulses to carry thoughts across the gaps. Soma knows this, because she knows over a hundred ways to stop someone's brain from functioning. She resists the urge to wonder what goes on in the parts of her brain that she cannot examine. It's probably just more ways to kill, she thinks, and she wonders why thinking that hurts.
The truth is, thinking these things only hurts a little. She wasn't made to have anything in her heart or anyone in her thoughts.
But in the space between Soma's head and Soma's heart is Marie's entire world. She explores it with fingers she doesn't have, examines stray memories with eyes she lacks. She learns and she grows in the interstitial land of heart and mind, and slowly she builds herself a world of her own. It is decorated with the memory of Allelujah and the wonder of his innocent words to her. It is supported by a love of whatever life she can take hold of, even here in the darkness.
Blood rushes past her. Electricity jumps through the gaps. Marie treasures the fragments of the world outside that filter through to her, and she waits for the chance to see it for the first time with her own eyes.
