It was so easy. How could it be so easy? Love had always felt like such a treacherous thing before. As giddy and head over heels as she had been before her wedding day, she had still been nervous and uncertain. She had thought she was lucky to have Roland because she hadn’t thought she was worthy of him. Remembering it now made her a little sick. He had proven himself so unfaithful and undeserving that just the thought of how she had swooned over him sent a chill through her stomach.
She had been an hour away from marrying him. Thank every Power that she had caught him before the wedding. It was worth the broken heart to have dodged that trap.
And now everything was different. She was in love again, but it wasn’t giddy and gasping like before. Fish didn’t feel the water, and this love was just as natural. It was just there, all around, soaking her through and through. Not that she didn’t feel nyathing this time. The tingle in her stomach wasn’t nerves with Bog. It was more like a simple elation. She soared instead of simpered and he was right there. She trusted him like a bird trusted its wings. If she fell, he would catch her.
It seemed ridiculous to be this way. She couldn’t say 'be this way again' because it hadn’t been like this before. But now that she wasn’t afraid or uncomfortable anymore, it didn’t matter if it was ridiculous. It was too much like home to bother her. It was too much hers.
