Anticipating the Action
She was diminutive, she was shy, and she was emotionally fragile, she was all these things, and she didn’t care. For once the action of courage had swallowed whole and was urging her on. It curled at the very top of her raven covered head to the very tips of her pale toes. Her pale lavender eyes flashed in determination as it narrowed on her prize. Hinata had for once in her life enough of her shy persona, and was because of him.
Naruto was loud, boisterous, determine, and bold. Clothed in blinding orange and crowned bright with blond locks he was the epitome of her opposite. Sparkling blue eyes that screamed mischief and will lit everything he looked upon, and he was currently maturing nicely. Hinata had loved him since the early academy days, and she had dreamed of kissing him, of professing what she felt, but she was always to shy. Though she was running out of time, as days passed Naruto was winning hearts and minds. People who would never look twice were now taking ridiculously long looks, and girls were beginning to follow him everywhere. Hinata would have none of it, because they weren’t there when Naruto needed them, but she was, even if it was silently.
When she saw him stroll by and he acknowledge her with a wave and a smile she controlled her urge to faint. Which was helped when she saw several giggling girls behind him, Hinata knew then, she would claim him today. So, she followed Naruto with an anxious speed, and the scene that she came upon made her mission a little difficult.
Ino, village famous for stalking the popular guys was currently talking animatedly with her love, and Naruto was responding far to cheerfully. A bit put out, she gazed down and kicked at a small pebble while thinking. Silence had her glancing up, Ino was attempting to hug Naruto! Hinata, normally sweet and shy acted in the moment and picked up the small pebble she had just kicked. Quickly she winged the pebble at Ino, watching as Ino screeched causing Naruto to start and then walk quickly away. Hinata offered a small silent sorry to Ino, before taking after Naruto once more.
Again her mission was halted because of someone else, however it was by her own cousin. Hinata had noticed how Neji had begun to soften to others after Naruto had fought him in the first Chunin Exam. Both were Jounin by now, and there were whispers that the ANBU where watching them. Neji instigated a spar which had Hinata sighing and then sitting to wait. Naruto wouldn’t be happy if someone interrupting his sparring.
Ten minutes the spar stopped and Naruto laughed at Neji with a cheerful smile. Victorious he countered that it was just his day, and Neji merely shook his head. Naruto waved goodbye and continued on, Hinata sighed again jogging after her love. As she passed her cousin, she could have sworn he smirked. However, she couldn’t be deterred and followed diligently after Naruto, he could span distances quickly.
Frustrated her mission was halted by Naruto’s other rival and teammate. They had managed to recover Sasuke Uchiha after a long war with Orochimaru, the council had made some excuse in the Uchiha’s favor that allowed him to return. The boys sparred and Hinata huffed lightly, this was dragging on her patience nerves. At least she noticed that their spars were friendly now, instead of the do all, kill all that they use to be. There were rumors that both Naruto and Sasuke had surpassed Itachi in power separately, and together they could raze main villages to the ground. Hinata took this rumor with more then just a grain of salt, as Sasuke seemed lighter in soul now, and did not talk of avenging. There were even rumors of Itachi’s death by the two males hands. As Hinata thought of these things, Naruto had vanished on her and she quickly locked onto his chakra signal. She bypassed the Uchiha while ignoring his upraised eyebrow and caught sight of the disappearing blond.
When she caught up to him she could have screamed. He was now engaged with his other teammate and they looked quite cozy. It was no secret that Naruto once had a crush on pink-haired Sakura, but that was ages ago. Though Hinata didn’t know if he truly still felt that way or not, she was counting on Sakura still loving the Uchiha. Hinata stiffed when Sakura hugged Naruto with a laugh, but they lasted to long for Hinata’s taste. Mustering her highest and loudest voice, she let out a yell. "Sasuke!" Her yell caught Sakura’s attention and she said a brisk good-bye. The number one fan-girl of the Uchiha was still in full swing, and Hinata thanked that small thing while heading after Naruto.
She was getting tired of all these interruptions and put on a burst of speed catching a hold of the puzzled blond’s arm. Naruto glanced down at her as she caught her breath and smiled. "I thought I felt someone following me." He chirped and let her leaned against his arm for support. "Hello Hinata, What’s up?" Naruto asked. Hinata steadied her breathing and looked up, catching his fascinating eyes with hers. Slowly she started to arch toward him, and was denied by another interruption.
"Hina-chan!" A male voice called her and both of them alighted their attention toward the male. Hinata had to withhold a curse, it was a fan boy, she started getting those after she became a chunin. Naruto raised an interested eyebrow as the dark-haired male galloped toward them. "Hina-chan, I love you!" He screamed, and Hinata watched her world go white.
Though Naruto had gotten older and wiser, not to mention smarter he still had no clue what exactly a fan was, or what they could do. So when he heard that pledge he gently stepped away and out of hearing range it was none of his business. Only to be caught by a crying Hinata a few seconds later, confused, and worried about what the male must of said he tucked her into his embrace. A protective growl came from him, as none hurt his precious people and get away with it. He ran a soothing hand through her hair, and began to feel her crying lessen. Without true knowledge he laid his head on top of hers and whispered comforting noises.
Hinata grew warm at his care, and peeked upwards to see the protective and caring gaze on his face. Feeling embolden, she stopped crying and stepped back to gain courage. For a moment she had been worried she had lost her chance of completing her self-imposing mission, or even having a chance with Naruto. Seeing no interruptions she turned her attention up toward the pensive lips of her love.
"Feeling better?" Naruto asked her. Hinata nodded, and stepped toward him. "Now, what happened?" He asked concerned.
"Nothing, he was just bothering me." Hinata said softly wishing to be kissing him then talking.
"Ah." Naruto spoke and then smiled at her. "I’ll take care of him." He said and then vanished. Hinata blinked and smiled at the fact that Naruto cared that much.
"Hinata, father wants you home now." Her younger sister’s voice etched from behind her. Hinata sighed, nodded, and then felt like crying again. Her mission had definitely been impossible today, but maybe tomorrow, then she followed her sister home.
