Theme 12: In a Good Mood
Hiruma x Mamori
She used to be the happiest girl I knew
I remember seeing her laugh
I remember the time she cried
When tears filled her eyes
As we sang 'Love Song' by Tesla
Her smile is turning upside down
She's got a boyfriend now
Monta sighed as he closed up his shoe locker after retrieving his school loafers. His eyes turned towards the door as he reached into his backpack and pulled out a thick volume that was geared towards College Entrance Exam studying.
Ever since Monta had entered the second half of his third year, he had been doing his best to study to the best of his ability. Sena had been helping him, and, of course, Sena’s college-aged friend and Monta’s secret crush, Mamori had been helping them out.
That reminded Monta of how Mamori would be at the study session he was going to at Sena’s house! He gave his usual grin and threw the book in his bag, wanting to run as fast as he could to Sena’s house.
She's got a boyfriend now
And it's hard to see
What she's got herself into
She's getting used to
The loneliness that's bottled up
Inside she knows
She knows she'll make it through the sad times
And all the bad times
Cuz it's up to her to make some sense somehow
She's got a boyfriend now
“Oi! Sena! I’m here!” Monta jumped up onto the edge of Sena’s cement block fence and jumped straight up to Sena’s house. Sena ran out, surprised at the loud noise, and then sighed to see it was just Monta, standing in front of his door. “Is Mamori here yet?”
“Yeah!” Sena nodded. “And Hiruma-san came too!”
Sena turned around, so he didn’t see the disgruntled look on Monta’s face. He knew just as well as everyone else that Hiruma and Mamori were going together officially ever since they graduated school, and the very idea of Hiruma being in the same room as Mamori irked Monta’s nerves.
She always knew she'd find the right guy
To hold her through the night
Someone she'd take to meet her mom
And take her to see Britney Spears
Who knows if Clark Kent is a Superman?
Or if he's just an asshole
Leading on and on
And on and on
And on
“Hey guys! Monta’s here too!” Sena stepped into the room, Monta dragging his feet behind him, his heavy books nothing compared to the heavy load on his head.
“Hey there Monta,” Mamori smiled, and Monta looked up, grinning at her.
“Damn monkey!” Monta jumped a foot as he felt a gun being pressed to the side of his head.
“MAXI-SHOCK!”
“You’re late!” Monta looked up to see a snarling Hiruma standing over him, gun in hand, an angry expression on his face.
“M-M-Maxi-apology!” Monta exclaimed. “I’m really sorry!”
“Hiruma! Stop that!” Mamori snapped, and Hiruma turned on her. “You’re such a bully!”
“Well, he WAS late,” Hiruma retorted. “A whole fucking ten minutes!”
“It’s no big deal,” Mamori said dryly. Monta looked up, slightly sad at what was unfolding in front of him. It was obvious that Mamori and Hiruma didn’t have a very good relationship. They never had, of course. They were always fighting with one another, and never agreed on anything. But Monta thought that since they were together, they would be a bit more agreeable to one another.
She's got a boyfriend now

“That’s right Monta, you’re getting better at this,” Mamori smiled at Monta, who was blushing from pleasure at answering the question. Hiruma had been a minimal part of the session, simply typing on his laptop and chewing gum. Monta and Sena, however had been doing their best to study hard with Mamori’s help.
“Are you guys hungry?” Mamori asked and, as if on cue, Monta’s stomach gave a loud growl. He smiled slightly, and Mamori smiled as well, standing up. “You two keep studying, I’ll go get some snacks.”
“I’m fucking hungry too!” Hiruma snapped.
“Then get your own!” she snapped back to him. “After all, you haven’t done anything!” With that, she walked off towards the kitchen, and Hiruma followed her in an obvious huff.
“Did they have a fight?” Monta asked Sena. “Mamori-swan and Hiruma-san and just fighting…”
“Nah,” Sena shrugged. “They’re always like this.”
Why does it always seem to be
Guys like that always get to be the one
She thinks the world of
And why does it always seem to me
That girls like that can't ever find someone
Someone like me
And its hard to know the difference between inside and out
When she asks if I could mend her broken heart
I wouldn't know where to start.
Monta got up from his seat. “I’m going to go check on them.” With that, he walked off towards the kitchen, still thinking about Mamori and Hiruma.
He slid open the door and gasped, his face turning crimson immediately as he saw Hiruma hunched over Mamori, the two kissing each other passionately. The crackers that Mamori had prepared lay strewn across the ground and forgotten. Instead, her hands were occupied in Hiruma’s hair, and Hiruma’s hands…
“DAMN MONKEY!” Hiruma looked up and Mamori turned around, her face as red as her hair. “GET OUT!” Hiruma pulled out his gun and started to fire warning shots in the air. Monta immediately slammed the door and ran back to Sena, his face still red, his mind still functioning at 150 miles per hour.
She got what she always wanted
She got what she always wanted
She's got a boyfriend now
And it's hard to see
What she's got herself into
She's getting used to
The loneliness that's bottled up
Inside she knows
She knows she'll make it through the sad times
And all the bad times
Cuz it's up to her to make some sense somehow
She's got a boyfriend now
“I guess they aren’t so mad at each other,” Monta sighed as he walked home, his studying long forgotten. The session had ended abruptly after that, Mamori too embarrassed to continue.
As Monta dragged his feet across the sidewalk, he sighed, looking up at the orange sky above him. His eyelids drooped, and a depressed expression fell across his face. “What a maxi-shock…”
She's got a boyfriend now
And it's hard to see
What she's got herself into
She's getting used to
The loneliness that's bottled up
Inside she knows
She knows she'll make it through the sad times
And all the bad times
Cuz it's up to her to make some sense somehow
She's got a boyfriend now
But, as Monta looked back at Sena’s house, thinking back to Mamori and Hiruma. He gave a slight smile as he thought back to their constant fighting; about how he had first thought that the two were having problems…
And he thought about Mamori.
And for the second time that day, Monta was in a good mood.
