200-acre Beacon Hill Park was established in the mid-1800s and is named for the masts that were strategically placed on a hill overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to provide navigational aid to mariners approaching Victoria's inner harbour.

I love the bridge and those bushes! It's hard to tell what they are from the photo, are they Azalea's?

Yes, I believe they are azaleas. I would have said either that or rhododendrons, which I get mixed up, but I think you would see more green in the rhodos, whereas the azaleas are a mass of solid colour. They look like southern ladies' floofy dresses to me.
