I've been back and forth on this particular plot development (I thought I'd ruined it completely when I messed up an earlier chapter), and I'm still not entirely sure whether the execution works, but I've been thinking about it a lot and I think I stand by it ~thematically. IDK, it's possible this part doesn't work at all.
