Oh, this is awesome! Way more than I expected! *squee*
I love Brad and his need to get to Nate. Your post-war Germany is well imagined. My grandma told me a lot of stories about the war and what happened after, but even so I can see the landscape and how it affects Brad.
Love the cameos, especially Ray, and Pappy who walks so quietly. And then he finally finds Nate. *sigh*
I've mentioned your story in my journal. (I will write a proper rec when your story is finished.)
Yay! I am so glad you liked it...I was envisioning a little time-stamp, but things kind of ran long. As they did in the original porn-meme entry that ate Manhattan. I am particularly glad that it seemed realistic: I almost scrapped the whole thing twice because it's not like I know anything about living through wartime. Anyway, I have posted part two: enjoy!
I loved the original so much, and this is such a note-perfect little sequel.
Also, I'm now oh-so-fondly daydreaming of the DELICIOUS mental imagery surrounding BritishUniStudent!Nate in Weimar Berlin discovering all the things the boys there knew.
Thank you! Nate was a v. diligent student, determined to make the most of any and all educational opportunities...someone should definitely write a prequel!
Um... don't think I'm not thinking about that very thing. There's SUCH potential to crossover with something else, only I can't figure out what. (Suggestions welcome.)
It's a time period I find pretty fascinating, and The Education of Young Nate tempts me mightily, if you're amenable to someone else playing in your universe.
I mean, yeah, no worries--I wouldn't mind at all (AT ALL!), the more the merrier in this 'verse. Berlin Stories crossover? Christopher and his Kind? (the new Dr. Who is in the movie version: totally did my head in).
I love how you incorporated bits from the show into the story, in fact, I was reading this chapter as a movie script! Every scene you described, every bit of dialog would make a perfect movie scene! I am imagining your story in the "Foyle's war" style! I can't wait to read the second part!
