Second Lieutenant Hawley’s maternal grandfather was a surgeon; his paternal grandfather pulled teeth in the back of a general store during the Great Depression.  Further back, he comes from a long line of midwives and snake-oil salesman.  More recently, there’s his Dad, who was a combat medic with the 173d Airborne Brigade in Vietnam.  There’s ( Read more... )

Oh, that was a great Outsider POV and a great OC!

I like that we see John and Atlantis through Hawley's eyes and that we know the similaries between John and Hawley but they don't. :)

Thank you for this fic! :)

Hawley sounds like an interesting character. I'd love to find out more about him...say, in a sequel? I really want to know the "long story."

Thanks for commenting! Hawley makes one other appearance in my fics, but really only because I needed a warm body (with a medical degree) for plot purposes. It's funny--my most popular fic ever all about SGA OCs, but none of them ever spawned a sequel: they exist just for one story, and then they're gone.

I greatly enjoyed this story, and do wish for the "long version" of how Hawley ended up in the SG 'verse. But what is even more intriguing is the quote you began the story with - one I needed to read and take in. The magic of Google lead me to Orison Swett Marden and his writings. Fascinating!

Thanks for the great story and fantastic quote.

Thanks for the lovely comment! I can't remember where I first came across that quote--sometimes the epigraph comes before the story, but this time I think I had the story written and then went trawling through various commonplace books to find a suitable quote. G

I really enjoyed this character sketch of one of the "little people" of Atlantis--the ones who never got a line on screen, but who saved lives & made it all possible. I see this as unpublished backstory for the Real Stargate: Atlantis that fans got (& TPTB too often didn't, sadly). Thanks very much for writing & sharing it with us!

(Here via one of skaredykat's rec lists, if you wonder about such things.)

Thanks for stopping by! I meant to comment on your comment earlier...but I was out of internet contact for awhile. It's fun to look back over some of these old stories, and I like knowing how people found them :)
