Advice?

I've had my 9 year old senegal for 4 months now, and I'm her fourth home. She's getting much more comfortable with me in her cage, to the point where she loves it if I put my whole upper body into the cage with her and give her kisses and attention as long as I keep my hands out of the cage. Unfortunately, I can't stand beside her cage all day and ( Read more... )

How is she with towels? I've seen and head some good use come from towel wrapping and then scratching the head and being soft and soothing.
Once they learn to trust you in the towel, it becomes easier to approach them with the hand wrapped in the towel and they'll come right to you for snuggling.
I've personally only used this on smaller birds, a cockatiel and some lovebirds, so don't know if the same approach would work for this one.
This approach, like others, can backfire. So only do this if you feel confident and can be consistent with it.

Does she like treats? Will she take treats from you at all in any way? If so, you can work towards her learning hands are not scary. I'd put a treat in her bowl with my hand, stand there, let her get the treat, eat it and repeat. Gradually leave your hand closer to the bowl, eventually touching the bowl as she gets the treat. Eventually it will progress to taking a treat from your hand. Then you can lure her to the front of the cage with a treat. If you can, have a perch just outside the door she can step out onto. Eventually hands=treat=good. After she'll come out of the cage, slowly start luring her onto one hand to get the treat you're offering in the other.

This method can take hours to months (or even years with some birds), but it's the only way I know of to teach birds with a hand fear to get over it. Lots of exposure and positive association.
