You know, I can take the benchings. I can take the implications that I haven’t played well enough; that I haven’t tried hard enough. Those I can understand, because it is true I haven’t been scoring-even if the reason is because I’ve been stuck on the fourth line. If they expect me to make money out of manure every night that I play for ( Read more... )

Oh, thank you; that really means alot for me to hear. I've never played hockey, and the last time I skated was about ten years ago (*grumbles at Californian middle-of-nowhere desert*) so when I'm writing the players, I'm just sort of winging it, trying to guess at emotions and situations and feelings. It's really good to hear from someone who actually knows the game telling me I'm getting things done right. ^_^

*tackleglomps you*

This was really, really amazing. Just reading this story pulls forth a fountain of emotions, both remembered and imagined. Having done a competitive sport for years, I can definitely empathise with your characters--you've built them in a nice, sympathetic way.

Too, the way you've written the story means that you're pulling forth memories of things that have occurred in my life...I haven't played competitive hockey since I was 10, but I've been doing competitive taekwondo for years. You've done a truly amazing job creating something that the reader (aka Moi) can identify with, regardless of exact sport/frame of exact reference.

Now, if only the guys I do weapons competitions with were as pretty as these two...*snickers*

Kudos!!!

*squees and snuggles* 'm glad you liked it! ^_^

I was in TKD for a while, too, and my instructor was a former marine sergeant, and boy, did he love to make us ache. *g* I was trying to capture some of that dead-tiredness, where you just come home all sweaty and aching and just wanna fall into bed and sleep a straight ten hours (though Gilbert didn't let Nikky do that, the meanie).

oh, boy, I think my trainer and yours worked together at some point! I mean, I nearly cut my toe off with a sword (and it wasn't even my fault, not really!!!) and what does he do?

"Suck it up, kid. Do drill five! NOW!"

(...it's probably really, really awful of me...but I didn't really mind Gilbert not letting Nikky sleep straight away...)

Sankies! :)
I think after Nikky/Sergei, and after Rick/Rusty, Nikky/Gilbert is my fave. They be the two little emo kids that pout but look really hot while doing it.

*cuddles them anyway*

That was very good! Very sweet.

Before reading this, I got tickets to the Columbus vs Vancouver game. All of a sudden, I'm a lot more excited to see them. Plus, it will be nice to see Brule play in Vancouver again.

Thanks for sharing that :D

Wow, just WOW.
That was incredible.
So sweet, so loving, so full of raw, undenial love.

People sweat to lose heat and Nikolai shivered to lose all his bottled up emotions, and I wrapped the blankets around us as if to form a cocoon that was safe from the world. Safe from a sport that consumed our souls, safe from a society that would turn on us if they knew that we loved; safe from friends and fans and family; safe from all the misfortunes that came with being human.

Simply beautiful. I don't know who I want to hug first, Gilbert for being so sweet, or Nikky for being so broken.
