I'm not dead yet!

I survived the race. Approximately (note - don't click if you can't tolerate blood). Actually, the bloody knee was the lesser of my injuries - I think the grape-fruit-sized ankle was probably worse. Did I mention I did this before I even started the first of my 3 legs? I think this definitely settles the argument on whether or not I'm a klutz ( Read more... )

While I must compliment the bad-assery and congratulate you for finishing, weren't you at all worried about permanent damage from running 15 miles on a twisted ankle?

Thanks for the congrats :-) As for permanent damage, given that my ankle didn't really hurt at all while running, I figured I wasn't stressing the injury too much. If it had started hurting, I'm not sure what I would have done, but certainly the intelligent thing would have been to stop - I'm glad I didn't have to make that decision. I also had the blessing of ERT-trained teammates, and I think they would put my long-term health ahead of the team's well-being...

My thoughts exactly...probably a little more on the anxious side given that my twisted ankle from a month and a half ago still isn't completely healed. Ankles are such a fragile design.

Sometimes I worry that you're addicted to pain.

That said, I'm glad that you had such a good time and that you didn't die. :]

Go you!

Oh, I whine too much when I'm in pain to be addicted to it :-) I'm addicted to things that might make me tough, which is a close relative, but I'd prefer it not involve non-muscle-building pain.

That sounds really fun; I wonder if there's something similar somewhere a little closer to me. Congrats on finishing!

Well, there's one that runs from Wisconsin to Minnesota - Ragnar Great River. That would be a bit of a drive to get to and a bit further of a drive to get back, but not impossible!

It's a bit of a drive, yes, but given the race format and length, it's not unreasonable.

Thanks for pointing that out; given that I can't yet run a 5k without walking, I don't want to do the upcoming race (in 3 weeks), but it's something to try for next year.

Good job! I'm sorry we weren't there to see it.
