Things I am excited about:

-Because I have bizarre food cravings, I have been desperate to try my hand at making CLAM CHOWDER for the past few weeks. And as our new stove had its gas turned on yesterday and I discovered that you can indeed buy clams in this town, I'm having a dinner party on Sunday! I LOVE THROWING DINNER PARTIES, it's a little bit compulsive and wonderful. ( Read more... )

right now, just about the only thing i want to eat is cherries. i don't know if it's the summer or my new bc, but i don't want to eat ANYTHING. it's so annoying, too, because my sisters and andy are constantly. on my ass about not eating, but it's really not my fault! i just have no appetite.

rhubarb pie does sound pretty good, though. as does, now that i think about it, this salad that i make with apples, rhubarb, scallion, walnuts, blue cheese and (oddly enough) sour cream! maybe i'll eat that for lunch today. i think i have all the ingredients except the rhubarb, but it's good without, too.

Robina I love that I can count on you to respond to entries about food! And I learn so much from you! IE - that salad sounds great and I'm impressed you know things to do with rhubarb other than make pie. I will have to try it, although raw rhubarb is a totally unchartered territory for me.

And yo, I hear you on the cherries. i just bought about 3lb of them for a picnic tomorrow. My family was so into cherries growing up I think it was pretty normal to spend summer days munching on them and nothing else... Although the one thing I've never gotten into is their super Slavic love of sour cherries as well, with the exception of my mom's homemade sour cheery vodka, which rules.

"super Slavic love of sour cherries"

YES. Completely my granddad, my fake uncles, etc. I have always assumed I will grow into this like I grew into plum brandy. As yet, however, they are still beyond me...

Ahaha my mom made plum brandy (SLIVOVIC!) this past summer for the first time and it ruled. Her sour cherry vodka will always be our #1 love though. But the cherries themselves... I dunno.

Where is your family from, I didn't realise you were a Slav as well(you poor thing)!

If you love clam chowder you should come visit BOSTON where the best clam chowder in the world resides. PS I love rhubard pie more than anything ever.

Haha you know I didn't eat seafood at all from the ages of 9-23, so clam chowder is a very new thing to me, and maybe this is why I'm a bit obsessed with it - I tried it for the first time last year and I was like, "Holy hell, this rules!" If I am ever in Boston, you can freaking bet that I am going to bug you to take me out for yummy chowder, while I charmingly make jokes about the Simpsons, because that's never been done before.

PS yes rhubarb pie is the best - I kind of hate stuff that's too too sweet, so the tartness of rhubarb makes it a perfect pie!

Yup, since two summers ago, I think. (And I recently decided I need to eat meat, although I have no taste for it whatsoever, while on fieldwork, but that's a research ethics/cultural sensitivity issue more than anything.)

Hey Anna, I don't know if you're talking to me or not ... but I just happened upon your journal and started reading it. I was in Montreal recently and thought of you so, so much. Sorry for everything ... good to "see" you again.

I friended you ... if that's okay.
