meh. i was just looking online about fiancee visas, getting a greencard, how you get a working permit once you're on a marriage visa, etc- just b/c i was wondering and wanted to see what nick and i are going to be up against when the time comes. it's not looking good. =( it's seriously going to cost us about five grand just for attorney and

You actually don't really NEED the lawyer, the only difference it makes if you have one is, he'll make sure you have exactly every piece of paperwork you need and when you need it

i'm so confused...my mom told me to go ahead and just file for the greencard too, but a website i was looking at said that greencards can be denied and k1 visas don't usually get denied. it also said something about being here on a tourist visa and getting married and then having to apply for a 'change of status' or something and that that could take forever or something. this is all so confusing to me. how are you supposed to know what to do??? that was the reason i wanted to talk to a lawyer, but i don't want them to take advantage of us, ya know?

Maybe have Nick ask some of his British buddies? I would definitely go with reference for a immigration lawyer. I know of people who have tried to get their permanent citizenship here and they went to some lawyer who ripped them off.

that's exactly what i'm afraid of...

i work with about a hundred attorneys at my job but i'm not sure if any of them are into immigration law. i guess i'll have to start asking around!!
