Thank you for reccing this, and for writing such a helpful intro for easing people's entry to it. I'm always at a loss to figure out how to plug this story to people unfamiliar with its specific adaptation, and I would be thrilled to see it get wider appreciation.

I can understand any hesitation in reading the fic - I probably wouldn't have read it myself if it hadn't been part of Holmestice. But it's such an outstanding piece of work, and I was so impressed by it and found it so engrossing. I do hope this rec will encourage people to try it.

I have been meaning to read this one, I didn't make it through all the Holmestice entries last Christmas. Thanks so much for putting it back on my radar! It sounds a bit darker than my usual fare, but your description of it makes me think that I will be able to love it.

It's darker than my usual fare too ^^ But I was so impressed by it and I'm glad I read it.

I think you'll find this Holmes appealing. The fact he's not suave, he's not an idealised hero, just goes to make his bravery, determination and compassion all the more touching. And this is an interesting and moving version of Kitty Winter too.

I'm biased, because I brit-picked it, but I'd definitely say go for it. It is darker, but in a realistic way, and it is very much in keeping with Victorian (and sadly, more modern) attitudes.
