Yes, it so rarely happens that a fic that's been left for years gets picked up again and finished -- I'm so happy that this is one where we got lucky! It's a personal favorite of mine and I was very happy to see it finished. I went back to reread as well, and got to enjoy all the bits I'd forgotten :)

Excellent review and a fic well deserving of more readers. I did feel that the rushed nature of the ending showed, although as you say it rounded off the story in a satisfactory way. The real strength for me is the writing and the insights into John and Sherlock's respective closets.

I really enjoyed seeing your review of it as well, which was terrific! The story does rush to the finish line in the last chapter, as the author acknowledges, so I agree with your very fair critique. I was still happy with it, though, since for me it felt right to see the story end, not with John and Sherlock solving all their problems, but rather at the moment in which they commit to working things through together. I would have loved another dozen chapters, but since that wasn't possible, I was pleased with the note the author chose to end on. I'm glad you particularly liked the writing style and the handling of John and Sherlock's troubled histories and psyches, those were the aspects I loved best as well.

I need to go back and reread this one too, but am so happy that the author decided to finish the story! Love your review too.

I know, me too! It so rarely happens that a story that has been left so long gets its happy ending, so I feel really lucky that it happened with this one. I also went back and reread, which was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy rediscovering it :)

Oh, my goodness. I was subscribed to this story and, like you, had given up on it. When I saw the last chapter come in, I didn't even look -- the author's disclaimer made it sound as if she'd wrapped things up perfunctorily, I thought.

Anyway, after I finished my Spook Me! fic I came back and had a look, on the basis of your rec here. So -- thank you, so, so much for reccing this, because I would not have finished reading it otherwise. What a knockout of an ending.

I'm so glad you liked the ending! I did, too, I found it very moving. Yes, I think she tends to underrate her own work, but I am so glad that now that it's finished she is getting some more readers to let her know they enjoyed it :)
