There was a choice between seeing my brother's graduation in the Norfolk sunshine or attending university in the deep Pacific winter. I consider myself very stupid.
Don't know much about New Zealand, but, I have a product for you to look for. More than likely you'll find them in a sporting goods store, or the sporting goods section of any other store. They're these little packs of chemical, and you shake them the hell up and the chemical reaction in them produces blissful heat for 8-10 HOURS. And they're *cheap*.
If not a store, try to find them on the 'net. Can't remember the name of them, unfortunately, but we used them this winter when it was blasted cold and the heat in our truck went out. So useful.
Um. Where I live is within 500 metres of, like, three camping shops. Three. My bus stop is right outside one. Thank you! I'll certainly look out for those, especially if they're as cheap as you say!
Here's and idea I just thought of - why don't you move your bed up against the radiator? You can cozy up to it at bed time. Be careful not to burn your nose in the night.
I have another idea, too. You mentioned earlier that you have lots of space in your room and one half is sort of empty. I don't know if that's still the case, but it might make a nice painting studio if you set up an easel in the corner. You could do creative genius things.
Plus, as Lizzie points out, it would fill your room with stuff and make it not as cold.
