Many years ago, my favourite book was this red-bound hardback volume of Russian fairy tales. Not only were the stories totally awesome - Baba Yaga, flesh-eating horses, magic apples and so on - but the illustrations were these incredibly lush, full-page watercolours in this kind of art nouveau style. Alex, you pirate, that was MY FAVOURITE BOOK! In fact, it was my book and I used to spend hours reading it in trees. That is how it became so battered. It was very heavy and I had to turn into a very skilled one handed climber to get up there, but once I was settled on a branch I could spend hours reading it. I loved it. Thank you so much for tracking it down. I was as gutted by its loss as you were. Yay!
