Wow this challenge looks amazing! And thanks for including my icons in this wonderful inspiration post!
I just have one question: we have to use both the required and optional theme in the same icon - so they need to appear in both icons in case I choose normal/hard mode -, right? Or can we choose to use just one them for one icon and the two of them combined for the second one?

If you choose the Hard Mode you have to use those caps; if you choose easy or normal you don't have to :)
