Man, I could see it being Caroline or Sweets.

Really? I think either of those would be a strange, albeit hilarious, choice.

So, when Pops mentioned Booth's son, did anyone have to think a second? It's been too long since he's been on the show. (Though I guess, thinking about it, it was last season- but still) Did they move out of town or something? Seems like Booth being so intent about being a good father would at least have him make the occasional mention of his son to show he is still in his life.

David Boreanaz is a good enough actor for me to never think of Angel when I see him on-screen, which I didn't think would be possible.

Interesting comment about Angel vs Booth.

I started watching Angel just last night (again, my Christmas present to myself kind of thing) and it had been long enough to really look forward to the re-watch -- and I discovered the same thing!

When I watch Angel I see ANGEL.
When I watch Booth I see BOOTH.

Says a lot for DB's growth AND chops as an actor I think.

Yeah, growth for sure.. you can tell he's still kinda rough in early Buffy episodes.

And I think the article's right how no one gives either of them much credit for their acting..I'm guilty of that too.

He looks pretty different then vs. now, too. Heck, you can see the difference in his looks and acting just between the early seasons of "Buffy" and on "Angel."

I was actually really uncomfortable with the way The Male in the Mail ended. Booth's father was an abusive alcoholic - while it's important for Booth to have good memories so he can make peace and move on, I think it's wrong to deny the reality of his father in a soppy, movie-like montage of good times. It's equally, if not more, important for Booth to remember what his childhood was actually like - denying that misery and anger and disappointment and covering it up with one or two good memories won't help anyone.

That bothered me, too--there was a reason Booth didn't want to see him, and it wasn't one he'd been explicitly hiding from Brennan. I think it was healthy for him to consider both sides of his dad and to open the box, but the letter felt too much like a redemption for this unseen character who (as far as we know) has done nothing to earn it and whose misdeeds were a major part of Booth's characterization.

I also thought Jared's absence was conspicuous here. Their father only kept memories and felt bad for abandoning one son? Pops only traveled to find Seeley? (If I recall, Padme had said she taught in Arlington or something, right? So shouldn't he be at least vaguely local?)
