Will art imitate life?

We wouldn't be a TV column if we didn't at least consider what Emily's joyful condition could mean for her character on Bones, Dr. "Bones" Brennan. More importantly, how will it impact the never-ending will they/won't they debacle of Bones-Booth (David Boreanaz) relationship? We went right to Fox to bug them such questions…

Bones, currently wrapping ( Read more... )

I think I actually would stop watching Bones if they made Brennan preggers. I always liked that she didn't want kids. If they have to have it, though, I'd really rather they just imply that it happens when B&B live happily every after. I really don't want to see it.

Oh, also on the list of well-hidden pregnancies, IMO, is Angela from The Office. It helped that she was so often behind that partition.

I totally agree with you! It was so nice to see a female character not want children for once. Now I feel like the writers are just perpetuating this idea that every woman that doesn't want children will change their minds once they meet the "right man."

Well Bones already changed her mind....she asked Booth for his sperm. So it's not as if she would only change her mind now

Sorry, I probably should have said lately instead of now. It bothered me when Brennan changed her mind in S5, but it's been bugging me more with how S6 has shaped up.

they can hide it easily enough. Give her a broken leg so she has to stay in the lab (bonus - how funny would frustrated-at-her-immobility Brennan be? She'd be helpless and pissed off about it!)

Then when she's on maternity leave, send Brennan off to a dig somewhere and have her check in via webchat now and then or just schedule the hiatus around it.

How long does maternity leave last in the US? If she were in Brazil, the 7th season would only happen in 2012. Here we have 4 to 6 months of maternity leave, because the government wants to encourage mothers to breastfeed for as long as possible...

Sorry I know it probably doen't have anything to do with anything, but I guess I'm just curoius...

I'm not 100% positive...but I don't think there's a specific designated time.

There is no government mandated minimum in the US. The Family Leave Act requires employers with more than a certain number of employees to permit employees to take up to 12 weeks unpaid leave and get their jobs back but really it's all about what each private employer offers or doesn't offer.

It's moot though, because I'm sure the star of a TV show can negotiate whatever she wants. There's no reason she couldn't bring the baby to the set, as lots of actresses do.

I think they'll just hide it and pre-shoot some stuff. Write her off into a dig or even a coma.

oh yeah I forgot about that. On grey's, Ellen Pompeo pre-shot a bunch of footage before she went on maternity leave. She never missed one because they used it while she was gone.

If they got the Ok from the network (and the pick up) and had the scripts done, they could even film a few right after wrapping this season with Emily.

They hid Gillian Andersons pregnancy on the x-files by draping her in huge trench coats. Brennan already wears trench coats. So....it wont be weird. I thought she looked it at the genesis awards but didn't want to say anything. She didn't look it in the air port at the beginning of March, so, she must have just started showing. What episode are they up to filming? They can't have that many more left....they usualy wrap in April/May. They start filming again in July. If she's due in the fall, (which I'm assuming she is if she's announcing) it will be the next season stuff they have to worry about pregnancy wise. Gillian Anderson worked up until the day before she gave birth. She missed one whole episode. She came back right after, they wrote her in bed and stuff because she had been 'abducted and injured' and looking back, I don't even remember she was pregnant half the time ( ... )

Hmmm...I'm thinking this means there won't be a S7.

Unfortunately, I think it's very likely! :( I can't believe the season is almost over and they have't renewed it yet!

That's the 2010-2011 season - *this* season. There's been no pick-up announcement for the 2011-12 season that I've seen as yet.
